When visiting the smart update site installed components are not recognized. The opening page does recognize my Netscape as 4.79 with 128 bit encryption, all other components are listed as not installed. Since things like AOL Instant Messenger, flash, ICQ, RealPlayer, ect.ect. all work, I'm wondering if the problem is me or the smart update site.

    Dumb Update?

    Hi rcerrato,

I'm 99% certain it's the Smart Update site. I've seen other users complain that it doesn't always work. If you continue to have problems, then post back.

My recommendation is always, don't use Smart Update. It's prone to cause problems, and not so smart, in my opinion! You're much better off downloading and installing what you need separately.

As Ramona said, just download the whole Netscape, and you can safely install over your current Netscape.

I was also pretty sure that it was the site. Do you happen to know the URL(s) to download Netscape components?

    rcerrato,

Are you looking for a plug-in maybe? If you could be more specific, I can probably give you a link.

    Thankx,

    Ramona :D

I wasn't looking for any particular plugin. Just maybe a URL that makes it easy to find any of the Netscape add ons.
