I have been attempting for some time to get the IIS5 SMTP Virtual Server working on XP. I am sending e-mail thru the server using ASP scripts and CDONTS. If I configure it to use the local domain the messages make it to the mailroot queue, but never go any further. If I configure it to relay thru a remote server on our LAN the messages are sent, but never make it to thier destinations. Can you help?

Can you send mail from Outlook Express or a telnet session using the SMTP service? What are the errors?

CDONTS is not supported in XP but you can make it work by registering cdonts.dll from a Win2k machine or use CDOSYS instead. See Q286431 ASPFAQ

I have already installed the CDONTS.DLL and registered it. I have also tried to use ASPmail, ASPEmail, and Jmail. Nothing will work. The latter three will not even make it to the mailroot folders.

If you have not solved this problem yet, please post more info about how you have set up SMTP in IIS 5. E.G., are you trying to use a smart host, how is DNS set up, is the machine behind a firewall?
