Hello, one of my comps is an older model, approx 7 years perhaps. History on it was, it was getting so messed up, windows wouldn't let me defrag, scandisk, reformat, or install 98 to it, (had 95). so i tried win2k and it installed just fine, however, ever since i did this, it seems that it takes 4-5 times of booting to get the video card to kick in. it dosn't beep at me (long short short) like it should if the video card isn't in, which makes me wonder what could be the problem. is it the card? the motherboard? or that windows2k isn't completely compatable with my hardware?

sorry if this is in the wrong forum, depending on what the problem is it could fit anywhere.

Carefull with drivers from driversguide as many are hacked drivers from developers trying to get unsupported hardware to work with later OS's, hardware and programmes. Many work fine, but be aware.
What brand and model is it? Is there a manufacturers web site?

To check the drivers, boot into Safe Mode. Go to Display in Control Panel and change the Video Adapter to a "Standard" Video adapter (you may need to use "standard" PCI Video Adapter or "standard" AGP Video Adapter). If it boots OK like that then the drivers are the problem.

It may need chipset/motherboard drivers installed. In which case, you need to ID the motherboard like Paul suggested.

If it has trouble getting to Safe Mode, I would remove the video card and clean the connectors with a soft pencil eraser.

Well, i put in another video card, and it still didn't work, so i'm thinking the motherboard may have compatibility issues with win2k? going to try to install win98 now.
