unable to install "Open Office"

When I click on the icon to install Open Office (which shows up as a black and white square with " 7z " in it) , I get a pop-up screen with "7-Zip" in the title bar, telling me "Archive is not supported ". I also had the identical icon showing up for a zipped file of Firefox icons - THAT one, however, worked fine when I ran it.
Was my download defective perhaps? Do I need some additional software to support the "archive [that] is not supported "? Any other ideas?

7-Zip is just another version of compression software. It's freeware that you can download from this page.

If the Open Office file won't open without it, may as well get it and give it a shot. If Open Office still won't open, which I think is likely, then the Open Office installation file probably got corrupted during the download.

I downloaded the 7-zip compression software, but each of the two times I tried to actually install it, the process froze and I had to reboot the computer. I think I'll just try downloading Open Office anew tonight, and see if I fare any better the next time around!
