    Hello All -

My original problem started several weeks ago when my screen would start to bounce up and down uncontrollably while scrolling through web pages and some folders in my computer. There seemed to be no particular pattern or reason, it just went haywire whenever it felt the urge. Changing the batteries in the mouse didn't help, either. So, in the hope that uninstalling and re-installing the OEM software would fix it, I uninstalled it through the Control Panel.

Now, when trying to re-install the software from the OEM CD, it gets about 90-95% of the way through the installation (according to the progress bar) and it gives me this error message:
"Error 1101. Error reading from File: C:\Windows\Temp\_is****\1033.MST ". Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.
When looking in the Windows\Temp folder, I can find nothing that resembles what it's asking me to look for and after clicking on OK it exits the 'installation' without installing anything.

    The " _is " is always the same but the **** has been 603C - 75 - 3211 - 41E3 - 13B2 - 5170 - 6112 . Every time I try the re-install I get different combinations of numbers and/or letters between Temp\ & \1033.MST when trying to re-install both IntelliPoint 4.11 and IntelliType Pro 2.2.

Has anyone got any idea what is going on here. I surely don't.

As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    TIA :)

    Hey Mike,

I had the exact problem with intellipoint. I believe it was when I had Win98se about a year ago.

If I can remember right, I think I went with uninstall and registry clean of all intellipoint stuff. I was then able to install properly.

I think I had to do it twice because I did something wrong in the install process.

Sorry to be so vague, but my between the ears RAM has been cleared many times since. :D

If you're running XP or 2000 try the latest versions from here

    Bill and Pete -

Thank you both for your timely response! :)

I was particularly happy to read Bill's post because I thought that only I could have such a problem. If it's gonna happen to anyone, it's gonna happen to me.

I am using Win98SE and I shoulda sed so from the "git-go ". I will continue using it "until they pry my cold, dead fingers from my wireless mouse ". Okay, so much for my Charleton Heston impersonation. Now, back to the problem at hand.

I did a search for 'Microsoft IntelliPoint' with RegSeeker and found nothing! Ditto with 'regedit'! However, 'regedit' did find Microsoft IntelliType Pro and RegSeeker didn't. (Why? I'm , yet again!) At any rate, I backed up the registry and then deleted the MS IntelliType Pro entry.

After rebooting, I tried one last time, to re-install the software for both the mouse and the keyboard and then the keyboard and the mouse. Both times I received the very same error message with yet two different sets of numbers and letters between Temp\ & \1033.MST.

At this point in time, I have completely given up. Well, unless someone comes along with a "bonified(?) MS" solution.

I have been considering doing a "Format" for several weeks. (I try to do one every 12 months or so, just for G(eneral) P(rinciples). Well, that and to clean out all the accumulated junk from the previous year. I have everything I want to keep on CDs so it isn't that much of a hassle anymore.

After I back up about 2.23 GB of stuff to CDs, I think I will go ahead with the 'format' and start all over. What have I got to lose? Maybe then I can get this s/w to load as it should. I'll let you know how it works out.

    Mike

OBTW: Just for 'chitz & grinz' - I had almost NO problems until my step-daughter downloaded and started using WinMX. I don't have a clue what this thing has done to this PC but . . . I can garrantee it won't happen again - or her cat will die an untimely and ugly death with her bird watching and her dog waiting for 'doggie treats' !!

    'Nuff sed !!!! :D :D

    Mike,

I do remember going through all that stuff for several days.

I think what finally worked was clearing all temp files, searching for intellitype and intellipoint words in the registry.

I would do a search for *.tmp and *.temp.

I also vaguely remember a "1033" folder in windows explorer somewhere.

A format would stop it for sure. Good Luck...

Pete C...Thanks for the link. I DL'ed and installed without incident. I don't see any difference but always good to get the latest.

    I found the cure . . .

I went Walmart yesterday and bought the cheapest wireless mouse and keyboard combo they had - $29.32. It works great without any problems.

The Intellipoint mouse and Intellitype keyboard now reside on my wife's old Gateway Destination where they work just fine w/o the MS Intelli-software. Even a "format" wouldn't fix the above problem on mine.

    Ain't technology grand?

    Pete,
I found that the new version 5.2 of Intellipoint is only usefull if your mouse is listed. For me it caused startup errors because my Wireless Intellimouse Explorer (v1.0) wasn't listed. Only the newer v2.0 was listed. I had to uninstall and reinstall Intellipoint 5.0. Why couldn't MS make it more backwards compatible, or warn against installing it with an old (2-3 years!) mouse.
