A friend in a non-profit ogranization called saying they have two machines running WinME having outlook express problems. I have not had a chance to sit down and their machines and check everything out yet, I will do that tonight..
I am hoping for a few insights on where to start once I get there...

they are running an outdated version of Norton I'm told, I'm not sure if that means the defs or the sw is outdated..

first machine, connecting via dsl, when outlook express opens it disconnects from the isp in about 10 - 20 seconds... I don't know if any message is produced..

second machine, user opens outlook express and when attempts to get her e-mail it asks for a psw even though one hasn't been set, (at least by this user)
and no one knows what to enter..

    any help would be appreciated..

I intend to use Ad-awarem, Spybot S&D, trend-micro online scan , Regseeker.. and eventually HiJackthis..

    any other suggestions?

If this isn't the correct forum , would someone migrate the thread to the appropriate one and let me know.. thanks.

If the account worked at some point then they'll need to contact their ISP and ask what the password is.

Well, both machines were running NAV2003 and were up to date... Both users using Outlook Express 6.

I believe I've got the first user corrected.. she had multiple accounts one which was set to a dialer... I updated the properties to use what was available, she wasn't around to show me the symptoms of her complaint but I didn't find anything unusual in the way outlook express worked..

On the second machine, the user was having a problem with an "Identity ", the default "main identity ", and not an e-mail account so I don't think the ISP will help here.

First use is still having problems....

kind of wierd after the machine boots up and outlook is started the user can download email and maybe send one message... after the download of email , outlook refuses to send a message out or download new email... when you attempt to send an email outloop pops up a little window that says 'ERROR' ... if you attempt to download e-mail , in the lower right hand corner it says 'no new messages' even though we have verified via the isp internet mail that's there mail to download..

if you reboot the machine you can download the waiting mail..
