I have 2 windows xp machines networked together accessing the net via an analogue modem.
All is fine on the network internally. "Host" machine accessing internet fine.
When the "client "machine accesses the internet it dials, connects to website and then hangs saying waiting for reply.
If I dual-boot via win98 all is fine.
    I have tried removing firewall
I have set machines up using the XP setup homenetwork disk on both machines.
I have tried setting it manually.
I have lost my patience and run out of ideas..

Anyone put me on the right track...

Microsofts built in Firewall NOT 3rd party. As a test I also ticked all the boxes but still no joy.

Well, ICS has been reported by many to be a mayor PITA..... most people will suggest either:

    • Try a 3rd party program (such as sygate)
    • Use a router (hardware) instead

Someone on newsgroup said it may be an MTU problem and when I set MTU to 576 and not the 1500 it was set all began working as it should.
Took a while to sort but all up and running now at last...
    Cheers

Ah... OK, that does ring a bell! You could also try 1492, which is the higest that should work on your connection.....
