Has anyone ever heard of this? Suddenly, every time I go onto google, I get an error message "this program has performed an illegal operation . . ." and it shuts down my browser (IE 5). I have tried clicking on all my google links, and I have tried avoiding the links by typing in the www address, it makes no difference. I am not experiencing a shut down with any other activity on IE 5.

Even more strange, the same thing is happening on my daughter’s computer as well. The only thing I have done to both computers recently is install EZ Antivirus, the upgraded "purchase" version of Innoculate-It. I have emailed them as well to see if they are getting any similar complaints.

Is anyone else having trouble accessing google? Or has anyone else experienced a browser crash every time when accessing just a single specific url? Is there a fix for this?

Help!!! Never knew how much I preferred google until now that I have to use other search engines!!! aggghhh.

    Hi maureen!
Are you talking about the google toolbar? If so, which version are you running?

    not the toolbar, the url

    Hi, Daisy,

No I'm not talking about google's toolbar, I'm talking about Google's url: www.google.com. Every time I link to that address or type it in, my browser crashes. the error message I am getting is "IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in module URLMON.DLL ..." which is a windows system file.

Since I’m on Win98se, I ran system file checker and it found and restored two files, but it didn’t make a difference with getting onto Google, I still can’t do it.

I thought I’d try a repair to internet explorer, but when I went to the add/remove panel, surprise -- Internet explorer is not listed!! Even though I’m using it as we speak! I don’t know how that could have happened except that it was installed with Office 2000 which is listed, but not by components.

I’m still scratching my head on how only one url could be crashing the browser.

    Any other suggestions?

    Hi again Maureen
The error messages certainly helped some. I ran across this one and this one . Both deal with Windows SE. See if either is applicable?

Thanks Daisy, I don’t think either of these apply to my situation because I'm not using the software they pertain to.

The first link attributes the error to an HP printer program "This issue can occur when you install the Hewlett-Packard (HP) Instant Delivery program that is included with the HP DeskJet 932c printer.“ While I do have an HP laser and inkjet, they were both installed long ago and never interefered with the browser before. There has been no recent change with them.

The second link attributes the error to a program called QuickView Plus which I’ve never heard of "“ so I don’t think that is the problem either.

But behavior-wise, I think we’re getting close "“ it does seem that the problem began on the heels of the recent installs just like the two KnowledgeBase articles you linked me to. EZ AntiVirus has emailed me and asked for a detailed description of the event, my hardware & software. So they are looking into this also.

You were a champ to go looking for me, though, Daisy. Bet you used Google!!! :)

thanks. I'll just keep waiting to see if any other ideas turn up.
P.S. I did do a repair with Off2000, had to repair the Whole Group - no choice to repair individual components like IE5. It changed all my icons, but it made no difference with this problem.

In 98SE it should be listed.

You may need to do a COMPLETE re-install of IE.

I did do a repair with Off2000, had to repair the Whole Group - no choice to repair individual components like IE5

    ? Does Off2000 contain a version of IE ?

Go the Windows Update and see if a newer version of IE ( should be IE6 SP1 ) which you may need is available.
