    I have the "auto notify" feature checked on both my CD Player and Burner but they don`t always "auto play ". Am I correct, thinking the auto play feature is a part of the CD that I am running?

    Operating System Windows 98 (build 4.10.1998)
    Processor 366 megahertz Intel Celeron
    RAM 160 Megabytes Installed Memory
    Hard drives{2} C-D 16GB free
    CD Burner Roxio Platinum 5

    To ensure Auto Insert notification is enabled - Click Start / Settings Control Panel / double click the System icon / click the Device Manager tab / click the + next to CD-ROM and double click the currently installed CD-ROM drive. In the CD-ROM properties click the Settings Tab and verify that there is a check within the Auto Insert Notification section. If there is no check in this box, place a check into the box click Ok and restart the computer.

    To ensure that AutoPlay for Audio CDs is enabled: Click Start>Programs>Windows Explorer>View>Folder Options>File Types tab. Locate the CD Audio Track category within the list of available file types. Select CD Audio Track and click Edit. In the Auctions category double click the option listed "play." If this is not listed see below. Make sure that within the "Application used to perform the action" is C:\Windows\Cdplayer.exe -play. In addition check that the "Play" entry within the file types window is bold, indicating that it is set as the default auction for CD Audio files.

    If Play was not an option listed when following the above paragraph, in the "Edit File Type window" click New. For the "Action," type Play. For the "Application used to perform this action," type c:\windows\cdplayer.exe -play

    Hello Moore,

    Am I correct, thinking the auto play feature is a part of the CD that I am running?

    For software there is a Autorun folder > autorun.exe

    For anything else, such as music, the OS will either ask you what to do with it, or just play

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks charlesvar and Miz, I should have been clearer on my first post. The audio CD`s play automatic OK, the software CD`s I open by clicking the drive letter in my computer, That`s no problem but this software disk I`m playing with came with a note from the guy who sent it that it should install automatic " If your computer is set up that way." I can open it and click the exe. Icon but it won`t install ( Access denied). With my meager amount of knowlege I thought maybe not starting automatically was the problem.

    For software there is a Autorun folder > autorun.exe

    I`m vague on this!!
    With a search for autorun on my Cdrive I came up with notepad with this in it.

    [autorun]
    open = udfrinst.exe autorun
    icon = udfrinst.exe,0

    So what do I do with that? :)

    Hi Moore,

    udfrinst.exe seems to be the install. Open (explore) the CD and if that is really there, double click on that .exe file.

    Thank you Charles. It`s not on the CD. Appreciate the help. I`ll contact the place where it came from. If anything startling develops I`ll post back. Otherwise Thanks.
