I have received my aol broadband set up disk.

Each time I try to run the cd I get one of 2 error messsages:
D\Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application or
Set up has caused an error in IML32.dll

I am at a loss as to how to fix this.

    Hello KAKBHOY,

    D\Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application

This kind of response usually means to run the process from a DOS command box. No idea why you got this response - and unless the setups are OS specific, which shouldn't be - you have a bad disc or something wrong with D which is the ROM I assume.

Set up has caused an error in IML32.dll

iml32.dll is a Macromedia Shockwave .dll on my system. The setup is trying to use it. Again, it could be a whole lot of things.

What kind of shape is your system in?

    Regards - Charles

Charles thank you very much for your response. I really appreciate it.
D is the ROM adn it works okay for other disks
I got AOL to send another disk and the same thing is recurring

That rings a bell about Macromedia Shockwave .dll. I have had other error messages saying I need that file. When I got this I went to the Windows ME updates site and downloaded all the relevant files.

Not sure what state it is in - have you any tips on how to check -should I take it to a repair shop?

    Hi KAKBHOY,

That rings a bell about Macromedia Shockwave .dll. I have had other error messages saying I need that file. When I got this I went to the Windows ME updates site and downloaded all the relevant file

Not from MS, here is the latest Flash version http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash See if that resolves the .dll problem. Sounds like corrupted file.

Not sure what state it is in - have you any tips on how to check -should I take it to a repair shop?

Well, really only you can answer that. Are you having any continuous problems (aside from this one) that can't be pinpointed to a definite cause? Are you getting BSOD's? Can you run Scanreg - defrag or any other cleaning/system utility W/O problems? In short, are you happy with the way your system runs?

    Regards - Charles

    Hi KAKBHOY,

In researching this problem, one problem that this may be a symptom of is either a corrupt Setup.exe or a problem w/ the CDROM drivers. Since you've indicated that this is the 2nd disc it may be the drivers or the way the disc is being read.

Try this: if your CD-ROM is able to read the disc, copy the contents of the disc to a new folder on your harddrive and run Setup.exe from the hard drive.

    Regards - Charles

Charles you have been a big help but my problems continue.

I copied the files from the disc onto the desktop and this has indeed solved the problem of the error message "D\Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application ". So thank you for v much for that.

Now, when I launch setup.exe - I get an error saying the "application requires shockwave player 8.5 which is not installed" - even though I have downloaded it from the macromedia site, tried uninstalling and reinstalling etc.
I have got folders in C drive for version 10 and version 8.

It seems that it is not able to locate it?

    Hello KAKBHOY,

Is there a Macromedia folder in WINDOWS\Application Data? That's where it would be looked for.

    Regards - Charles

Yes it is there in application data folder on C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Macromed\Shockwave 8/SwInit.exe

I went to the macromedia website and downlaoded version 8.5 and version 10 to there. One thing which seems strange is the folder is called version 8 not version 8.5 but I don't know if that could cause the problem.

At long last I seem ot have cracked it and I am now on broadband!
Not really sure what all the error messages were about or how it worked. Eventually though I reinserted the disk and it worked!

Thank you so much for all your assistance.
