hi all, got a newsletter today with the following content....

"Mozilla released Firefox v1.0RC1 yesterday at http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ "

didn't see anything about it here or elsewhere, and the link ends up at the download page which does not appear to state the version...

is this really an upgrade and is it worthwhile ?

    Hi Ramona,
Many thanks for all your good advice. I looked at the FTP site for Firefox and can not tell the difference between the download files for v10.1 and v10.0. The zip files have the same name. Does one have to apply a patch to go from 10.0 to 10.1?
Also could you please give the FTP site for Mozilla? Do the URL's for these sites ever change when they introduce a newer version?

    ackerberg,

The pleasure is mine, as always!

When you get to the page for Version 0.10.1:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/

    You will see this heading:
    Index of /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1
This means that ALL downloads on this page are Version 0.10.1

The Zipfile is: Firefox 1.0PR.zip, and when you click on the file to download you will see this at the top of the download window:

    You have chosen to open:
    Firefox 1.0PR.zip
Which is a WinZip file from:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/

You will see a similar window for the Firefox Setup 1.0PR.exe file:
    You have chosen to open:
    Firefox Setup 1.0PR.exe
    Which is an: Application from:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/

The FTP site for Mozilla: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/

The URL for these two FTP sites have only changed once to my knowledge, and that was when mozilla.org changed servers.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Ramona

Thanks so much Ramona. Not only were they confusing the issue, but they were more than a little late with the "alert" also...

I have been pretty happy with Mozilla and it's email client. Why would I want to change to Firefox and then use Thunderbird (or would I have to do that)?

At this point, it is matter of preference. If you like what is known, stick to Mozilla. If you want some excitement, use Firefox, and whatever mail client you have. Thunderbird is not compulsory.
