explorer.exe crashing and now I can't back up on CD-R

Hi,

A few weeks ago, explorer.exe began crashing when I'd click on certain media files, for no apparent reason. Then, today, I was backing up data when, after burning a few successful CD-Rs, my burning software would no longer work, saying "burn process failed, aborted by user ".

I looked in Event Viewer and the following are the most recent of the error logs:

I'm so sorry - I forgot to say I'm running Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (or 3) with all the critical updates.

is it generating a Drwatson log, are you setup to have it write out a dump file?

You can configure it by Start->Run drwtsn32

Hi, I ran Dr. Watson and then I crashed explorer.exe by clicking on an mp3 that has crashed explorer.exe before, but no log file was created that I could find.

But in the Dr. Watson window, there are a few Application Errors listed with numbers.

What should I be doing? Thank you.

 

Check this box, then you can look in the location that is in the 'Crash Dump' box to find the dmp file.

I tried it again, but the only Dr. Watson log in that location is dated December 2003. The box to create the log is checked What am I doing wrong?

Hi, it looks like the logs have been appended to that log dated December 2003, but I scrolled down to the bottom and couldn't find a more recent date. I've crashed explorer.exe about 3 times, once after I unchecked "append log ", but no separate log is being created that I can find.
I still don't know what I'm doing wrong. Thanks so much, again.
