I was just sending some e-mails to a number of recipients in Mozilla and was picking the names off of the address list from my address book. When I reached a certain point down the list, the list scrolled by itself to the end and I could not scroll back up. Finally I got an error message that Mozilla could not continue and was asked if I want to send a report to Microsoft. First time this has ever happened. I recently found some adware on my machime with Norton Anti-virus which I removed. What is going on here? Anybody else ever have this problem?

I just had that happen on Friday on my work computer, while I was trying to find a specific message in one of my mail folders. Looking down the file, scanning through the messages one at a time, got to a certain point and it just started scrollilng and I couldn't stop it. I think it happened twice, although I don't know whether it started at the same point in the file. I didn't send the error report to Micro$oft, although it offered to. I just rebooted and that seemed to take care of it, but I didn't think to do a scan for spyware afterwards. I'll run a scan tomorrow and see if there might be something.

How many addresses or e-mails are we talking about?
This would never happen to me since I divided my address book into several category. Same for mail.
What type of mouse do you have?

I might have 100 addresses in the list and it starts to scroll when I get down about 50 names. I have not added any names recently and this never happened before. I am not sure this has anything to do with the number of addresses in the address book. Bentley, I just found some adware the other day, first time, with NAV. Perhaps there is something else there that NAV missed. What software are you using to detect the spyware?

    ackerberg, and bentley,

The are several bugs associated with the scrolling problem, which have not yet been resolved. I have this happen occasionally also, but have not experienced it yet in Firefox.

This happened in the Mozilla(v1.6) mail program. Does it have anything to do with spyware or adware?

My situation happened in Mozilla 1.72, and in a folder of about 75 emails. I have since deleted some of them, so I can't say how many there were then, but not a big file. And I didn't find anything when I ran the scans.

    ackerberg,

No, I don't believe it has anything to do with adware or spyware. I would suggest that both of you update to Version 1.7.3. Lots of bug fixes and also security vulnerabilities addressed in the newer version. The cross-site scripting was rated highly critical by Secunia: http://secunia.com/advisories/12526/
Your Profile won't be touched by the update.

    Remove Mozilla using Add/Remove
Delete the Mozilla folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\Mozilla

Delete the GRE folder for Mozilla 1.6 located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE\1.6_2004011308

GRE folder for Mozilla 1.7.2 located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE\1.7.2_2004080302

The above dates might differ acccording to the type of install - Zip or Full.

    Then install Version 1.7.3.
