    Hi
I would like to check for driver updates on my video and sound chips, but I get lost with all the deferent updates.
Is there a easy way to find "my" drivers from a list to insure I'm updating the driver for "my" S/V chip?
    Here are the device's...

Realtek AC97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller
    Realtec Semiconductor Corp.
    Version 5.10.0.5480

    The others say
    Legacy Audio and Video Drivers.

    Thanks for any help.
Please Note my Computer Knowledge  And keep that in mind when posting.
    Thanks

    Hi Geri,

You (we) need to find the motherboard model for your machine. If you have the manual that came with it, post back with the model number.

Download and run Everest (in my signature). It should say the model under Motherboard -> Motherboard -> Motherboard Name.

If you have an OEM machine like an IBM, HP, Compaq etc., we will need to find the model at their website.

The information you supplied does relate to the Audio. It should not be hard to find Realtek AC 97 drivers, if indeed they are correct ones. Nothing to ID your video card/chip though.

We really need to start with the motherboard details.

    Hi Mattman
Everest says MotherBoard name - unknown
I have used Belarc Advisor and it says it's a ASUSTek Computer INC. Kelut 2.02.

The number Everest gave was - KM400-8237-6A6LYAOEC-00

    Hi
It's a Pavilion a620n. I believe it is a chipset everything plugs in towards the top. Nothing in my expansion slots.

Geri, all the drivers for your machine will be contained on the "recovery" disk that you received when you bought it. The only "update" for that machine is Windows SP2. Read here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...8&lang=en&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=bph07165
It tells you how to get the drivers from the disk.

If you have a problem with the recovery disk, the only way to get the drivers is to get another recovery disk from HP.

I dont think you will find many ways to upgrade that machine in future. HP only seems to offer trinket upgrades for it's computers (drivers, etc).

Read through the "Customer Care" links at the top left of that page.

    Thanks mattman
I guess if I have to I could buy a graphics card in the future to up date as needed.
The reason I asked was that I have a game my Grandson plays on it, "Need for Speed, Hot Pursuit 2" and every so often the sound goes out on it, not always but every so often.
It's an older game....2002 and my computer is new, so maybe it's not my system?
I was guessing that it might be the drivers on my Audio chipset??

Sometimes my games will pause (very occasionally) due, I think, to the caches refilling.

    Suggestions:
Try another set of speakers to rule those out.
Check the speaker cable does not run adjacent to power cables.

Reinstall the drivers as suggested by HP. If it says they are the same as the old ones, remove them in Device Manager (and Add/remove Programs), reboot and then reinstall. Removing the video drivers may make it reboot into Safe Mode, in Control Panel -> Display Settings change the Video Adapter (drill down through the tabs/buttons) to a "standard adapter ", then reboot and install the drivers.

When the drivers are installed well, get the latest version of DirectX if you do not have it (type dxdiag ...[and press enter] at the command/run line or do a search for dxdiag and double-click it). Apart from telling you the version of DirectX, Dxdiag also has some basic diagnostics for you video and audio. You can get the latest version of DirectX at the Microsoft website, if you have not come across it before.

Maybe a warning...my sister's HP just got slower and slower and s l o w e r over time despite my best efforts at maintaining it, I have heard others say this as well. I don't think they handle software or hardware changes well and the only way to get them back to "normal" is to reformat.

When you decide to get a new machine visit this forum. You will have built your own in no time
