Hi, my friend recently installed windows XP and activated it. Now everytime he starts his computer it crashes when the login screen appears and he can only run his computer in safe-mode. Has any other person experienced this problem or know how to fix this?

Hello josh... and welcome to the Windows BBS!

Tell Your friend to, while running the computer in Safe Mode, go to System Properties > Advanced > Start and Restore - Settings and uncheck the box for "automatic restart ".

The next time the computer is shut down and started, it will blue-screen and give an Error Message. Post it here and someone may be able to help!

sorry, I misunderstood, but I guess he can't get into either alternative boot mode like safe-mode ect. Every other mode requires the login screen and this is where the problem occurs. Is he just going to have to reformat and install windows again?

Try hitting the function key "F8" while the computer is still in POST. I think there is an option to disable "automatic restart ". I have never done this myself but have read that hitting the F8 (or possibly another function key) will present that option. Getting an error message is essential to get a starting point.

Otherwise, disconnect all hardware that can be disconnected to find out if it is a hardware problem. If the computer starts normally, shut down and reconnect the hardware, item by item to isolate the culprit.
