When doing a Regedit search It appears as though the componet refered to is a Legacy Driver of some sort.

I am trying to get a copy of what the reg report shows but as yet have not succeded.

AFTER maling a new restore point I went to MSCONFIG and shut down what I believed was causing the problem.

I now have a NICE CLEAN Event Viewer.

Doing this also removed some other questionable ( what are they ) Items.

It appears that I have shut down the 16 bit Windows Subsystem.

I get and error message from a couple of older games referring to Virtual Device Driver. It gives me the choice of ending the program or ignoring the error ( which I do ) The games I am referring to are capable of being played VIA the LAN. Even after ingoring the message they play just ffine. ( or seem to anyway )

So. I believe I will check into UPDATING the games.

    The errors are back.

    Any Ideas ?

The errors I was getting from the games was a MISSING Symantic File. I have the fixed.

You didn't say but would I be too bold to assume that it might just happen to be GAPI32.dll (your missing file)?

No. It was not GAPI32.dll that was reported missing. Even though I have not found it anywhere yet.

The screen message said S32EVNT1.DLL ( a 16 bit sus-system file ) was missing. But the games did not actually require it too run. They ran nicely without it. I just but the file back to get rid if the annoying message.

I was just looking in the Registry and it says that S32EVNT1.DLL is a Virtual Device Driver.

I sure do mean "errors messages found in event viewer " They are shown in my original post. Most of the time there are 3 but sometimes there are 4.

    There are none in TM.

I now have the 16bit subsystem figured out and at the moment all is OK there. The programs do run just fine if I ignore the error. But I did re-arrange file and folder locations so the the Reg and the file location match.

I am now playing the role of " The Gambler. "

I went to services.msc and disabled COM+ System apps. Errors in Event Viewer are gone.

So. Unless I read ( understand ) incorrectly the only thing that may happen is that some program that needs it may not run.

    Need Ideas here please.

Are there any takers on the idea that this problem MIGHT BE due to a bad in/un-install of Norton Systems Works 2003.

I was just looking at the reg and it is LOADED with keys still refering to Symantec. But I do have to investigate more and see if the possibility exist that Norton may have been installed in more than one location. Therefore I believe only the latest install would be removed.

YES !!! I do have a Restore Point made this AM.

Can't answer your question but as you may already know re: Systemworks - Personally, I've never been able to totally remove everything without crippling something on those occasions when I've tried. Sure, one can uninstall and the use the Symantec cleaning tool but that still leaves lots of pieces - usually they won't interfere with things but yes, they are still there. Most of the installation goes into Norton and Symantec program folders but there is also a Symantec folder in Program Files\Common and a bunch of stuff that goes into your System or System32 folders depending upon OS.

Safe bet is uninstall, use the appropriate Symantec cleaning tool, follow with RegCleaner or manually search out registry entries, remove what you can and leave well enough alone. Alternative is wiping the drive and re-installing the OS.

    ;)

    Thank you Rockster2U

I believe you and I are riding the same train going in the same direction and inbetween the same two stations.

also a Symantec folder in Program Files\Common

That is the folder that could not be found. It did exist but not where it was being looked for.

All is going quite well at this time so I believe I will leave well enough alone for now anyway :)

:(And I needed to DESPERATELY get away from my NASTY habit of trying to do too much all at once. :(

Could someone please change the title of this thread so that it refers to Event Viewer the way it should ?

Thanks TonyT for bringing that to my attention.
