    In doing some housekeeping this morning I ran into a problem I had never encountered before.

    In order to delete a block of old mail I selected the first old msg, scrolled down to the last old msg and clicked on it while holding down the shift key. I then got a "report msg" and was advised Outlook Express was closing down. I sent the report and OE closed. I tried it another couple of times, rebooted and tried again with the same result. Does anyone know what's going on here?

    Thanks,
    Lochinvar

    When you get the "report msg" dialog box, there should be a link in it to see more details about the error. Click on it and post back here the exact details; specifically, any file it refers to as being part of the problem.

    Meanwhile, try selecting fewer messages at a time to delete. If that works, the problem is solved. ;)

    Thanks. I did look at part of the "report msg" before but will do so more assiduously now and let you know. Incidentally, I have never had this problem before.

    Miz, I tried the procedure again and once more got the "Error Report" msg. There is a huge list of .dll modules which I can't reproduce here, of course, but there was an additional remark which said:

    <The following files will be included in this error report:>
    <C:\DOCUME~1\FRANKB~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\6a90_appcompat.txt>

    Is this helpful or meaningful?

    Miz,
    I haven't received a reply from you regarding this piffling little problem but am wondering if you think the file name I sent is helpful. One other piece of information ... This only seems to happen on one of my four Identities I use in OE. Is that significant?

    Miz might be interested to know that I solved the undeletable email problem. I created another inbox (inbox1) and put all the email I wanted to save into it leaving the undeletable email in Inbox. I then navigated my HD, with the help of Windows Explorer, and found Inbox which I deleted I then renamed Inbox1 back to Inbox and ... voilà ... no more unwanted, impossible-to-delete email!
    A little lateral thinking, with the help of a friendly 'guru'.
