Is there a way to import a table from Word to a table in Excel?
OR copy a table from the web into Excel?

I have downloaded a financial table (a VISA bill) and want to put it into Excel for analysis.

Excel is usually smart enough to recognize a table you copy from elsewhere and paste to Excel.

I just tried it and it worked fine.

That's what I thought but when I did it, I got a little PDF icon in the upper left of the table and nothing else. Clicking on it did nothing.

Is the Word table actually a picture of a table ?
    Or a PDF document ?

    Strange!

Which version of Office are you using?

Also have you tried using "Paste Special "? In Excel, right click in the cell you want to be top left of the table and select "Paste Special" from the list. This will give a number of options about how to insert the data in the clipboard into the Excel document. If the first option your select doesn't work, try the next.

Another thing to try is using notepad as an intermediate step:
    1. Copy the table into notepad
    2. Save the notepad document as a text file (*.txt)
    3. In Excel, open the "Open" file dialogue (File > Open) and change the "Files of Type" dropdown to "All files ". Then browse to the text file and open it.
    4. You'll then be presented with the "Text Import Wizard ". Select "Delimited" and click on "Next ".
    5. Set the Delimiters to Tab (though you may find you need to set it to Space, and select "Treat Consequitive Delimiter as one "). Click on Finish.
This is long winded but always works in my experience. The result is a new sheet containing the table. You can copy and paste this to other Excel location at your heart's desire.
