I created a rule that said "if message is from something@something.com, DO NOT download from server "

I am still receiving the spam (and its always from the same domain - I've even tried BLOCKING it!) This problem concerns a webbased email address that also has POP and IMAP. (I am using the POP feature)

The emails are always downloaded into the deleted items folder, but I would prefer they not get downloaded at all. I even went through my mail rules and deleted the rules about "Delete from the server ".

The problem is, I have no idea which one of the rules would prevent the spam from being downloaded.

    Can anyone help me?

    Hi,

I never could figure out how to use those rules in Outlook Express.

I use Mailwasher v1.30 to help me with this sort of thing. It doesn't "TAKE OVER" your mail program like some of the others do. With it you access your mail while it is still on the server & from there you can choose to just delete mail you don't want downloaded to OE, or you can both delete & bounce it back to the person that sent it. Going to the web site, I see they have a new beta version. v1.32. It is freeware, but he would like a donation if you decide to keep it. However, there is NO auto shut down on the program. You can use it for as long as you like. It will just have an ad window scrolling up at the top. I can put up with that myself, for the amount of good it does for me.

I was getting 12 to 14 spams a day from the same people. This went on for months. I got Mailwasher & started bouncing them back to the SOB's. For some reason, sometimes it wouldn't bounce them, but most of the time it did. In about two weeks time, I guess I got the message accross to them that I didn't want their Spam. They quit sending me stuff.

    Man was I tickled.

I still get spams from places, but usually after bouncing it back to them 2 or 3 times, they quit. That one place however took me two weeks to get rid of them, but I finally did.

thanks....I actually have mailwasher downloaded (can't remember when or why - it was probably because I was looking for anti-spam tools). I'll have to figure out how to use it correctly.

Good! Glad I was able to remind you. I think I will try the newest beta version.

One thing I will suggest is, don't have it to auto delete & bounce mail based on it's own built in database. This could cause you not to receive mail you would like to have. Of course, this also means that you will have to manually bounce & delete each time you log on to the server with Mailwasher, but that is better than having mail you'd like to get being auto deleted because it might resemble a spam address according to the program's database. Besides, I kind of like bouncing the darn things back to them myself. It gives me a small amount of devilish delight. :D

Each time you get something from a place you don't want stuff from, just checkmark both the bounce & delete & Mailwasher will automatically blacklist that particular spammer & only that particular spammer & put it in "your" blacklist file. After awhile, you will have a pretty good list of blacklisted ones that you've told it to blacklist by checking the bounce & delete boxes. And each time that one comes back it will already be marked for bounce & delete.

Even having to manually delete from the server is better than having the **** downloaded to your computer. Mailwasher also tells you if there is attachments & there are certain virus's it identifies as well.
