I know many scanners won't work off a USB hub....but how about printers?

I have an HP 5550 DeskJet that works just fine plugged into a 4 port Hub.

I Also have an HP Scanjet 2200c that works just fine plugged into the same Hub.

But I am also working my way toward Networkable printers and Scanners. Already have an HP 5850 Deskjet.

chrisw--If you use a self-powered hub, just about every USB peripheral should work.

Guys...I have a HP 3500c scanner, won't work off my self-powered hub. It was HP tech support that told me that scanners have problems.

chrisw--Can't argue with HP support. I ran an HP printer off a powered USB hub for some years. With my new PC, I have eight USB ports so do not have the issue.
    Regrets.

Jim....just noticed you were from ABQ, I'm just up the road at the City Different. HP said not all scanners had a problem, maybe 15-20%. Mine is one that does. Must be nice to have 8 ports...I got two (and added the hub later), and thought I was a progressive! Cheers....

Hi All: Hey Chris, I recently installed a HP 7760 Photo printer. During installation the software declared it had to be plugged to USB on MOBO said it would not work on hub.

So, I installed plugged into MOBO. Then, after installed and working, I unplugged from MOBO, plugged into hub, and lo and behold, it worked. I also have an HP 2200C scanner, it is plugged into hub, it works fine. I don't remember if I did the same proceedure with it or not.

Sort of off topic: The 2200C scanner is slow as molasses, it takes about a minute while it says it is warming up the lamp, then scans once, then to send the scan select where to send it, then select output size, then select format, then it scans again. So Sloooow. I'm going to post to hardware and see if I can get a recomendation for something faster.

Anyhow, good luck installing the printer.

    Martin
