Does anyone know of a Tweak that will set the width size of the systray (notification area) to a certain size that will always stay the same size ?

I have tried every suggestion to keep it open and nothing works. I want to keep it open without having to click on the arrows when I want to see the time & date in TClockEx.

Possibly there is a "tweak" that will do this.

    Thanks for your help,

    Judy

    Hi Judy!

Right-click in the Notification Area and choose Properties. Uncheck the box for "Hide inactive icons ". Now, the area will grow and shrink according to the number of icons.

    Unfortunately, that doesn't work.

The entire systray does not show unless I click on the arrows which are not present if you unclick the "hide inactive icons. "

I want to find a tweak or program that will allow me to keep the systray the same size all the time so I can see my TClockEx time and day.....

.....something that will change the number of digits? pixels? in the width and keep the systray open.

How many icons or startup items do you have in your systray? We usually advise reducing this number. To many Startups and you increase the window of opportunity for various errors and problems. Have you thought of reducing the number of systray items rather than finding a method to increase the size of the sytray? There is no need to load everything under the sink at startup. Most can be started by a shortcut on an as needed basis.

That being said I will go look for ya' even though I ask that you consider the above suggestion. Be back soon.....

    Notes:
As a work around have you tried unlocking the taskbar, if you've done so, and dragging the taskbar up a level to increase the free area.

I'm not really sure I understand what you're trying to do here. On first glance it seems obvious but this one statement has me puzzled.
I use TClockEx and never have to click on the arrows to see it. It's always there where the clock is (without having to go through the properties>customize thing). Are you saying that you have to click on the arrows to see TClockEx? If so, what shows where the clock is (while TClockEx is running)? Just the normal clock? Mine shows the icons I want it to show plus the clock (TClockEx). I've never had to change anything. If I run TClockEx it's there, if not, it's not. I'm a bit confused here because of this.

I think we need a better picture of what is going on...

    Hi Judy,
What arrows are you having to click on in order to see your tclock? Be descriptive please.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas.

First, Goddez1, the arrows on the very far left that look something like this << are the ones that have to be "clicked" in order to open up all of the systray.

Second, Zander, What I see now, is " << connection icon, Norton AV icon, (TClockEx showing only Thu 14) "

If I click on the arrows, I see " connection icon, Norton AV icon, ( TClockEx Thu, 14 Oct 11:56 ) I did try to set the width in the properties of TClockEx, but that didn't work to keep the systray open.

Third, Goddez1, as you see above, the only icons I have showing are the connection icon & the NAV icon. And, I have the settings set to "hide when inactive." But your suggestion brings up another question. I have so many "past items" in the "customize notifications" page. How do you remove these "past items? "

    My task bar is unlocked.

Doubling the size of the task bar is a last resort. I really do not want it to be so large.

Thanks again, and I look forward to e-chatting again.

I just downloaded Tclock so I could have a hands on discussion. What version are you using? Have you tried different adjustments of the display Tclock via it's own properties. I see you have tried the width. For example you can control how much space both horizontally and vertically this baby requires. I can see a potential for trouble space wise if you have the options set to do so by choosing wrong font or fonts size or to generous a height/width size.

So we know your preference or your current settings, what are your settings via a right click on the Tclock displayed in the systray and selecting "properties" and clicking on the "color and font tab "?

How about the control on the "format" tab. Not knowing the amount of the information you desired on the display, I have mine showing only the day, date (no month, no year...not needed, my memory isn't that bad yet) and time-hour:minute am/pm (saw no need for seconds).
Dah! Nix that. On reread I see you have much the same as myself. Call me stupid. (how about the CR option. This will control display as one line or two.

I think you get the idea...even though you may have set the systray not to hide inactive icons, I believe even this would have it's limits if you go far beyond the systray maximum...assuming there is one. Without looking this up, logic/instinct,intuition tells me there is a max limit.

Running XP, my normal System Tray view has enough height to allow 2 horizontal lines to display TclockEx clock info, providing a narrow width view. Assuming you are using default font size, try the following ..
Open TclockEx Properties, should open to "Clock" setting view. See "Clock format" header and the input line in which you can change the displayed view.
FIRST ... copy and paste you CURRENT setting into a WORD .doc or your favorite word processor for safe keeping.
SECOND ... copy and paste the following setting ....
    ddd, d MMM|h:mm:ss tt
(notice the PIPE sign | creates two line view)
OK from the properties view. Does TclockEx display BOTH lines?
The view for today should appear as follows....
    Thu, 14 Oct (current date)
    1:27:06 PM (current time)

    --- PS ---
The above does NOT work for a display option on my w98SE. The System Tray does not have enough height to display a 2 line view for TclockEx.

    Goddez1,

I have version 1.4.2 of TClockEx, color is turquoise, ( the 5th from the left on the top row ) "”black text color & default font. My format tab settings are: ddd,d MMM H:mm .

Cannot find the "CR option "

Do have systray set to hide in-active icons - only ones showing are the connection & Norton AV icons.

    Dennis L,

I did try your settings, but I had to make the systray 2 rows high in order to see the 2 line view. It did not work on my computer in the 1 line view.

I am using XP Home, SP2 and subsequenet patches.

Will check to see if using default colors solves problem and let you know.

    Found another option....
Below the "Clock format" input field is "Fixed width ".
Do you have the left box "ticked "
If NO, put in "tick ", the right side box has a default of number of 100.
As soon as you tick the left box, your "Displayed Box View" for TclockEx should expand in systray. If not enough, increase number in "right side box. If to big, reduce same number in small increments. Will cross my fingers.

Re-reading your previous posts, I see you have tried the "Fixed Width" option with no success. Check this ...
On any open area of the "Taskbar" right click.
From dialog box, click on "Properties "
In the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties view, see alittle past half way down.
Do you see "Show the clock "? Is it ticked? If not put in tick.

Make sure you do not have your taskbar set to autohide. I noticed the display of tclock width decreased or generally acted erratic ie; blocked my ability to see the whole time display or the display would shift left or right out of view.

    NOTE:
I believe the optons to use default is based on an individual's computers defaults. For instance my clock default background color is light blue, font color is black and font is Tahoma 8 pt. I tried several user fonts in various sizes, just to see if I could reproduce anything similar to your problem but the systray always expanded to conform to my preference. Finely settled on the defaults, rather than risk a fussy Tclock.

    =========
Sorry for confusion and the mistaken directions for the CR switch. I had downloaded this Tclock:
    http://216.239.41.104/search?q=cache:dBWHBB3q4doJ:www.buzzys.net/tclock.html+tclock&hl=en&lr=lang_en

This is very similar to Tclockex but available Bells and functions are different. I now have both Tclocks. I just have to decide if I need the calendar function of Tclockex or the Sounding off of the hour and the timer of the other Tclock. Decisions descisions...

Thanks again to DennisL and Goddez1...

I did have the "show the clock checked" - but I was using "autohide" ---

You are a genius, Goddez1 to have figured this out. I waited to write this message until I was sure it worked, and was sorta busy over the weekend...
...Thanks so much, my TClockEx is now always showing all the functions it is supposed to: date, time, and month. And, it does not seem to be a problem not to be using autohide, ( sorry about the double negative) since I use the windows key to see my taskbar and otherwise it is hidden and that works great for me.

This is really the best BBS !!

    Hi again Judy,

Yahoo! I'm glad to see this mystery is solved. I never bothered with Tclock although several members have commented on an attachment or preference to using it. I may use it for a time but will probably, eventually, uninstall it. My preference is to keep as little as possible in the systray or allow to run in the background but different strokes for different folks and if this is what you want I'm glad I could help you with the display nuisance. Thanks for sharing the final outcome and your most welcome. :)
