    Hi,

I've had this problem in the past and just experienced it again today. Whenever I try and install files that are "larger," it seems to corrupt my drives and make me have to reformat everything. I have scanned for viruses and none have come up, just as last time. Any help is greatly appreciated!

How much free space is on the disk?

Have you done a disk cleanup followed by a scandisk and then defrag. If you haven't defragged for some time and the disk is highly fragmented, you should run the utility again after the first defrag pass.

What exactly do you mean by "install files that are larger "?

I have over 200 gigs free on the disk.

I would run both of those, but I can't since the problem corrupted both of them.

When I say "larger" I mean size of a game or program on a CD or multiple CDs because that has been the only time I've encountered this problem.

At this point, 2 things to try before you have to consider another format/install.

start => run => cmd and OK then
chkdsk /r and answer as needed to to the check disk at next boot then reboot.

    When it comes back up,
start => run => sfc /scannow and OK.

Hopefully that will get you working again although I'm puzzled as you are by the cause. Bad drive controller maybe, bad spots on the drive maybe, or if it always happens when copying from CD, some sort of issue with the CD drive. Hardware is a weakness of mine and I really can't suggest any specifics.

If the above works or if it fails and you have to reload, I'd suggest using NTFS for file storage if you aren't now. You can convert a working system or use the option when you reinstall.

I attempted to run the chkdsk, but it has also been corrupted, as well has the other thing you suggested I run. :-/.

I don't think it's a case of a bad drive because it was just replaced by the builders because of another problem.

Also, it's on NTFS right now, so I'm not sure what's going on.
