I am using a logitech optical mouse (not wireless) & just now I am having trouble moving objects from one place to another with the pointer.
Does this mean I need a new mouse??? I have been using this particular mouse for about three years now.
Would appreciate any answers someone can come up with.
    I am running windows XP.
I have also updated the driver for this particular mouse - but that did not help the problem.
    Thanks,
    Lucy

Are it's little shoes on the bottom worn out? They don't move very well when worn ;)

I don't think so - there are only two front tabs on this mouse.
    Thanks for the reply Steve.

Oh - dipped in what???? with the old mouses (Mice??) you could clean them very easily, but with the newer optical mouses(Mice??) there doesn't seem to be anywhere to clean it???
Thanks to all for the replies back - I think I will just go and buy a new one.
    That should solve the problem,
    Thanks again,
    Lucy

You said you were having trouble moving stuff with your pointer.

    What sort of trouble?

Can you right click and drag to new place and get an option box asking if you want to copy here or move here. Can you right click and get a context menu asking if you want to move and where to?

When you left click and drag stuff, does the arrow have a little file thingy traveling with it. Are you trying to move stuff in windows explorer. Can you drag an icon on the desktop to a different place and drop it?

Do you have the latest mouse drivers from logitech? I used a logitech mouse for quite a while and finally moved to a MS Optical (corded) mouse because about every other version of the logitech drivers messed something else up.

If every other function of your mouse is working, I would bet on the drivers. It could be some option you have turned on in the mouse ware. Windows XP sp2 may have the drivers for your mouse now.

To Bill - this is driving me crazy - I have the latest driver for this mouse - that is the first thing I did. It's just double clicking when I don't want it to - also, I am having to press down so hard in order to drag a piece of puzzle.
Other times it won't even move.
Appreciate all the tips you have given me - but unfortunately nothing is helping the situation.
    Thanks anyway,
    Lucy

Don't let it drive you crazy. Can you borrow a mouse from someone to try? Any mouse will do just to see if you can get the proper responses. If it works ok then you can go out and buy a new one. I wouldn't "t go buy one until I proved that the mouse is the problem.

When you press on the left or right click, do it very softly until you feel or hear a click like a micro switch closing. Once the switch is closed, pressing any harder does no good. Think about turning on a light switch. Using a hammer on the switch does not make the light come on any better.

I have done all you suggested & more, something is wacky - I'm not sure - but it's not the end of the world if I have to get a new mouse.
    Thanks again for your help,

That mouse looks very impressive - but I have come to the conclusion it's not my mouse - because it only happens on a couple of puzzle sites.
Still that new toy is very appealing -
    Maybe in a few months.
Thanks for the reply & info,
    Lucy :)

Hi, I do not know the difference between a radio mouse and an optical mouse.
The one I have has no cable from it to a com port on the PC.
All the mouses (mice ?) I have ever had, have a heavy ball that rotates
2 or three sender axles. This one sends the mouse coordinates and actions
to a receiver connected to the mouse port. If I hide the receiver, the mouse
still functions OK - so I suppose it works by radio.
So, if your mouse has a moving ball under it, take the back off it and
clean all round inside - maybe check user manual first.
    regards

I have a Microsoft Trackball (thumb roller) optical. It has a red plastic ball that comes out for cleaning. The mouse is stationary and you use the thumb roller to move the cursor around the screen. It takes a little practice to get used to but once I did I could never go back to the tiny wrist strainer of a mouse I had before.

You are only having trouble on a couple of puzzle sites? You can drag and drop on regular stuff? Would have been nice if we knew that on the first post.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear on when I was having trouble with the mouse - but since posting there are other problems as well.
Your mouse sounds very interesting - going to investigate a few tomorrow.
Thanks for all you replies & help - Much appreciated.
    Lucy :)
