 I don't know why or how this happened.

A few days ago, oce when I started up, I got an windows explore window (open) at start up, but no start menu, desktop or anything. After restarting, everything was back to normal. But today, I can't get my desktop back. I understand some program has failed to open... but how can I solve this? The only thing that opens other than that is something named mdm (i checked this on task manager).

Technically, I can still use all my programs from explore so long as I don't close it. And everything else seems to be in working order.

Help?? I can't keep my computer like this.

    Hi Sabii,
Try this. Boot from an ERU (Emergency Rescue) diskette.
    At the prompt, type

    C:\Windows\System\regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll

Remove the boot disk and restart the PC.

    regards

    ok....

I'm a bit confused by your post. (lack of knowledge =/ )
Where can I get an ERU?

Today when I turned on the computer everything was fine, but later when I turned it back on, everything had gone strange again. For a moment there I actually thought everything was solved....

When you installed Windows you would have been prompted to create an
emergency boot diskette. As you seem to not have done that, let's try
another way to repair the Desktop.
Sometimes you seem to be able to correctly boot to Windows - your Desktop and the Start Button function correctly. When this occurs do the following :
Click the Start Button then Click Run then carefully type what I posted above then click OK then reboot the PC, also from the Start Button.
    regards
