On a laptop, IBM Thinkpad 770Z.

Received the laptop from seller with WinXP Professional and OfficeXP2002 installed on it.

WinXP appears to be unstable on this machine. I installed Win2K Professional. Now there is a dual boot for either OS.

I did this to hopefully keep the OfficeXP installation.

How can I safely remove WinXP?

    Thanks.

It depends. Is Windows 2000 on the same partition as Windows XP? If so, hopefully they are installed in seperate directories.

If installed on same partition and in different directories, boot into Windows 2000. Login and edit the c:\boot.ini file. Remove the entry for Windows XP and make the default Windows 2000. Delete the windows XP directory (probably c:\windows). You can't delete the program files directory because win2k installed in it also. Thats the best your gonna be able to do to clean up.

If installed on different partitions, let me know. This will take a lot more explaining.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it was installed right into the same partition, c:\. I did nothing more than just create the Bootdisk set and then installed from those and the CD.

[on this laptop the CD-ROM which is actually a DVD-CD, can only be recognized as a DVD and therefore will not boot to the CD-ROM]

There is a logical D: also.

    There are two folders:

    C:\Windows

    C:\Winnt <--assuming this is the Win2K folder?
