    This is a ZoneAlarm alert:

    -----
The firewall has blocked Internet access to <IP deleted> (DNS) from your computer.

    User:
Program: Generic Host Process for Win32 Services
    Time: 4/23/2002 12:23:06 AM

First of all, what is "Generic Host Process...." ? It's obviously something to do with internet communications, but exactly what is it? Under the ZoneAlarm "programs" tab, I Allow it to connect to the internet, but not to act as a server... My internet access works fine, I can download/upload, etc. etc. with no problems -- So it makes me curious: why does this program want to access the internet? For what purpose? (I ask, because I never got this message under Win98SE...)

This happens quite randomly. I don't even have to be doing anything on the computer, and the alert will pop up. (This is with NO internet software running, otherwise I might understand this) But why, seemingly randomly, does this program try to access the internet? --- The IP it's trying to access is always the same, BTW)

I'm quite used to ZoneAlarm alerting me that it's blocked access TO my computer FROM such-and-such IP address... Not as used to ZA telling me it's blocking my computer from accessing an IP.

I don't know -- I'm sooo tired and I'm sure my question sounds as confusing to you as it does to me right now ;-) Sorry 'bout that!
--Maybe I should grab another cup of coffee... Yup.. Gonna do that :D

Why not just deny access for the item in question, disable ZA alerts and stop the *tail wagging the dog*? ;)

That has already been done -- Sometimes I go into ZA to check the alerts, for curiousitys sake. But curing the symptom doesn't rid the disease... I'm just curious as to what "Generic Host Process" is, that's all... :D
