I hope someone can assist. I d/l'd SP2 and activated it with my key. Aside from feeling everything about my PC is now slower (even with firewall turned off) , the biggest issue is I can reboot but I can't shut down. Windows shows all the right screens indicating it is exiting and shutting down but at the last screen that says "...shutting down." it hangs. The Power lights onthe front of the PC turn off but the fans etc. inside are still humming and the monitor just shows the "shutting down" screen. It lasted over 12 hours so it's worse than just a slow shut down.

    Paul.

    P.S. AMD 2400+ w/ 512 DDR 2700 RAM, ASROCK K7VM2 M/B

Usually people find SP2 has sped things up slightly. Did that for me, and on an old slow Celeron (@525) it has sped up a little.
Whilst waiting for some more experts so make suggestions, have you run the disk cleanup command? My Comp, Right click your drive, properties etc?

In Documents and Settings folder go in under your login and delete everything in the Local settings/Temp folder.

Clear all your Internet temp files and history files.

If your happy using, and know the (small) risks then I also recommend the registry cleaners in my sig. Do not use the duplicate files cleaner in Easy Cleaner! But the Unecessary files cleaner works well.

Also in my sig. is the registry defragmenter (ERUNT) download and run this.

    Finally run the system defragmenter.

*EDIT* FWIW I'd suggest running a FULL virus scanner check. Make sure your antivirus is up to date with latest definitions as well as running Spybot search & destroy and Ad-aware for spyware. Update their definitions before running.

I had the same problem and after some searching and playing around, I found that the driver on my Logitec Trackman Wheel Mouse needed updating. I did the update and my problem was gone. Who would have thought!!!

So, make sure all your drivers are updated before going any further.
