I started the computer and a message shows that a prog/app/dll is missing...I have Windows98/Compaq Presario/ IE6 and Avant Browser/ and I did not change anything on the computer. It just started showing this message and giving me a hard time going to the websites. I restarted the computer several times...

short of doing the old fashion atempt to fix it by hitting it or put rabbit ears on top of it, any suggestions?

Hi ! It's always helpful to us if you post the exact text of the error message.

Is this an error that occurs during boot-up of the the PC ?
    What do you mean by
    ?
Does the same error occur when you use Avant Browser ? (Version ?)
If you load Internet Explorer directly instead of Avant, is web browsing OK ?
Have you an app that will let you see programs which will be started when
the PC boots ? If so, what programs ?
    regards

I was having trouble going to some websites through both browsers but now it seems to be working ok, but I am still getting this missing Dll file and I haven't a clue what it is for and if I need to reinstall it?

I cleared out cookies and cache, deleted temp files, emptied recycle bin and refreshed the page and I was able to get on the websites fine now.

    "c:/progra~1/wildta~1/apps/cda/cdaeng~1/.dll "

This still appears to be incomplete since "cdaend~1" is a folder and the dll has no name. ".dll "

Regardless, the clue seems to be "wildta~1 ", which is WildTangent, a piece of spyware/adware/etc.

Did you recently uninstall this? Or do a run of SpyBot or AdAware? These could have removed the software and left a reference to the dll in the registry.
Or, the software coud still be there and is giving the message when it starts.

Go to Add/Remove programs and if WildTangent is present, uninstall it.

Then, run MSCONFIG > Startup tab and UNselect any reference to WildTangent and post back the results of a reboot.

jacksparrow--As WhitPhil has said Wild Tangent is generally regarded as spyware, though I do not know why this particular .dll is giving you problems. Wild Tangent is generally a hidden download when you install other programs, like games and AIM, etc.

It is possible that the "other programs" may no longer work when you uninstall, but I suspect it will be easy to reinstall if you really want them (and the spyware).
WT will also be detected and can be deleted with AdAware or SpybotS&D, but try the Add/Remove route first.

I believe you have something else beside Wild Tangent on your computer. go to the Quicklinks page and get Spybot and Ad-Aware. After installing, update each one before scanning. Use Ad-Aware with the Custom Full Scan, and let Spybot remove everything already checked off.

I ran Spybot and I removed Wild Tangent and everything seems to be working smoothly. Just another annoyance on the computer! Thanks for your replies and help.
