I have a computer that came with Record Now pre-installed.

I've had nothing but problems when using it for DVD burning.
On rewriteable DVD's (DVD+RW)it has a tendency to trash the disk when I'm appending data to a disk with files already on it. So I end up losing whatever data was on it.

On non-rewriteable DVD's (DVD+R) it will sometime close out the disk even though I've set the option to leave it open.
So I end up with a 4GB disk with only a few files or folders ... and a disk that now, won't let me append anything to it.

Any recommendations for a more reliable program ?

    thanks

I have no experience with Record Now. But before using something else I'd suggest going to the Record Now web site and update your version to the latest allowed as a free update and see if any of your problems are fixed.

After this then you may need to look as a couple of others that will cost, such as Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.x (which I recommend) or Nero 6.3xxx which is also a good choice, but I perfer the Roxio product.

There are freeware burning applications that may do all that you require. I've had a look at a couple that look like thay may actually be usefull, but havent tried them. A search for freeware CD/DVD burning programs should uncover a few?

NERO, you will not be sorry. As for Roxio, the earlier versions sucked, I dont know about the new ones.

    Hi Sir Gerald,
I think that you will end up dumping Record Now! I bought Version 7, tried four times to burn a slipstreamed XP SP2 bootable CD and ended up with four coasters. Tried burning a boot disc of the slipstreamed CD with Nero 6 Demo download version which worked and booted perfectly.
Complained to Sonic giving the details and the first support response was "I believe it has to be burned as an image. I don't think that you can just put some data files on a disc and expect it to boot. Thats why there are boot iso's all over the internet; "
Pointed out to them that it was burnt and booted perfectly using Nero and got "Just a bad burn. Despite it burning fine, burns created by consumer level burners are filled with errors although they might work" He then went on to say I needed to update the drived for my CD/DVD deck, and possibly the ASPI.
I am amazed that Nero can burn a good CD with such a bad deck!
Going to pay for Nero now.

    Roger

    Thanks for the recommendations.

I tried Roxio and liked it.
And I just downloaded Nero 6 so I can compare features between the two.

Interesting ... CD's and DVD's burned with Roxio access a lot faster than those I've made with Record Now - which was like watching a web page load on a dial-up connection.

Glad you like Roxio. I think it's a better, more comprehensive suite than Nero, although I use both. Make sure you have the latest update, for Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, or download the update if not. The version # is 7.0.430.0. There's a few bug fixes in it. They must be about due for another update as well? One of the things I don't really like about Nero 6.x is that virtually every month they post updates for the whole suite which is a lot of downloading on dialup. Good that they do update it. But too often for my likeing.

sir gerald --Please ignore this post. I was totally confusing Cyberlink's Power DVD with Sonic's Record Now. I have been emailing both these companies lately and scrambled them. Forgive me. I would have deleted the post except that then Russ' comment below would not have made sense. I know (more or less) what Record Now does. It is Power DVD that I do not understand.
Did you get Cyberlink's RecordNow! with a Dell PC?
I have been trying to figure out what RecordNow! really does. Whatever Dell's version gave me, the best I can figure out is that it is only involved with playing DVD's, not burning them.
Would like to hear further info about what RecordNow! does, especially to the contrary of what I am posting.

Probably does about as much as Drag 'N Drop CD did when it came preinstalled on my Toshiba laptop. This is one piece of Japanese technology that doesn't work!
It was the first thing I uninstalled on the new laptop. Problem was it error'd out when trying to uninstall it, so I had to manually uninstall it and clean the registry. On a brand new laptop I wasn't impressed.

It certainly isn't "groundbreaking" as they say on the web site. :(
