When I shut my computer down it freezes at the part where it says "Microsoft Windows 98 Windows is shutting down ". So I have to cut it off manually on the tower. What should I do to correct the problem?

    Thanks

To try the easiest thing first, download and run the Win98SE shutdown supplement. A link to the download is on this Microsoft page.

I had another problem on the computer and after getting that fixed it cleared up this problem also. Thank you anyway for your help.
