I recently tried to install Xp Pro on my computer after deleting Home Edition and formatting the partition. It installed fine, but after it restarts it goes through booting up and then gets to the Xp Pro loading screen with the scrolling bars, then the screen goes black  My monitor is working fine, the keyboard is working, the mouse is working but no pointer, and the hard drive is working, but dormant. I have tried re-doing it all again but to no avail.
Anyone know what to do?
    Thankyou :)

What's your video card? Have you tried safemode?

How long have you waited at the black screen to see if it progresses further? My computer does this but I forget if it is the video or the monitor sync that causes it.

You'll probably have to delete the partition and reformat (preferably in NTFS) again. You need the practice don't you? ;)

Before trying again I would set your BIOS to the setup defaults, and make sure the Hard Drive detect in BIOS is set to AUTO rather than LBA etc.

All the IDE detects should be set to auto. Primary, Master and Slave and Secondary, Master and Slave. If you have nothing connected to the slaves then you can set these to NONE, but if you connect any future IDE devices you need to switch these back to auto.

Remove all cards and external devices except those needed for booting. Graphics card, Monitor, mouse and keyboard should be all that is needed, and of course the CDROM!

    Still Nada

It's not my video card, I have had a problem with it before where the monitor itself turns off which was due to my internal graphics card having a conflict with my external one. My monitor is fine, and i do get the whole startup graphics thing so it can't be my graphics card.
I don't even get a mouse pointer, and I waited for about 10 minutes and nothing. It should just be the login screen that shows up.
There seems to be no possible reason why it shouldnt work. It seems like it's XP Pro itself with the problem because Home Edition works fine in both file formats no matter how many times I re-install it.
I've already reformatted and tried in both file formats twice for Pro but to no avail. My BIOS is set up on all the defaults, and I have tried removing all devices but still the same problem.
Thanks for your responses though :)

It still looks like a video problem. Remember that until the login screen or desktop loads, the graphics card is in VGA mode which is a very basic mode that will be the same regardless of whether the card is $50 or $1000. Once the PC switches to the login or desktop screen it then switches from VGA to SVGA mode. This is when the card really kicks in, and its imbedded hardware takes effect along with the drivers. But you say that formatting with XP Home is OK. So I dunno? The default drivers in Home and Pro will be the same so all I can think of is that you have a corrupted XP Pro install disc. Might be worth installing from another CDROM if you have two or can replace the existing one, just in case there is a read error with that particular disc.

Ok thanks for the info about graphics :)
I have already tried using another disc but unfortunately still the same result
It's quite perplexing  I don't know what else to do.
