Just in the last two weeks or so, the cursor sometimes acts strangely when I am composing email. It jumps ahead of the actual insert position. The number of jumps is arbitrary and it does not happen all the time. This is just a nuisance as long as I type everything correctly, but if I make a mistake, it becomes very difficult to make corrections. Just positioning the cursor is difficult. Often the correction gets jumbled as well, or the type as shown gets cut in half or overlaps.
    Any ideas?
I know these "sometime" problems are difficult.
I updated to XP SP2 several weeks before this started to happen so do not think that is the problem, but who knows.

Nasty sounding behavior. Try a couple of system-fix things.

    From a cmd prompt
    Code:
    chkdsk /r
and answer yes to the question about doing the deed at next reboot then boot.

    From a run line
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    .

If it is still happening, post back.

Newt--i am not ignoring your kind suggestions, but I am testing another approach--using a different font.
The font which I was using when the problem occurs is an "imported" font that was not natively installed by Windows XP. Maybe that is the problem, although it did work with earlier versions of Windows.
(I "installed" the problem font by just dragging and dropping it into the Font folder. I am told that should work, but I know there is a more involved "install" procedure. I may try that, too, but I was getting tired of the old font, anyway. :))
I have not had to write many emails today, so have not had a good test of my new approach.

If you want something real fun just wait till you sit in front of the screen and see the pointer just start crawling across the screen.

At first I thought the optical mouse ( corded ) might be sliding along the desk but even with my hand holding it the pointer still moved.

I think ( note I wrote THINK ) it was caused from some website I was on.

But restarting Windows fixed it. ( for now anyway )
