    Hello everyone:

I've a few problems on my programs, indicated above. My previous post related to my friend's different programs from mine.

    1) Taskbar: I must've done something to my shortcut icons in my taskbar so that I need to switch around the place of the icons and don't know how. I.e., the numerous icons I use frequently, are all bunched up at the far left corner so I must click many icons frequently to find the one I need at the time. The three icons: "Internet Explorer ", "Outlook Express" and "Show Desktop" are now in the larger place but they could fit very well in the small far left corner. I'm confused! I hope I didn't confuse others?

    2) New Folder: I took the advice Ramona gave me for the MS Office 2000 for my friend, and tried to open a new folder on my Word97 by clicking: File and New Folder. but it didn't work. Is it that different from my Word 97? Perhaps on this program it's called "Directory "? And where could I find it?

    Thank you very kindly! Adela

    icon shotcut & more

? (1)= right click on free space of destop, select arrange icons by, lotsa whays togo here. Auto arrange is what I use + align to grid, but experiment a little.

? (2)= There is no "file/new folder in my ver: of word 2k or xp. The only place to New Folder is in Windows Explore that I know of. Maybe you mean "open new doc, or in my work 2k just "new" & when clicked allows the start of a new "Doc ":)

Thank you, Rancher, but what I wanted was to change the order of the icons in the TASKBAR and not in the desktop. While I waited for a reply, I just dragged the space to make it longer, so now it's fine...BUT, when I reopen my computer on the following day, they are still in the previous place. If you know how to do this I'll appreciate it.

No, I mean to open a New Folder, not a document, in Word97, Win98 (and also in my friend's computer: MS Word Office 2000), so I can save in there a certain category of documents. Is there a place where to do it? And where?

    Thanks again. Adela

If you mean to save a document you are working on in a specific folder click on the File, Save As, then in Save In bar there is a small arrow at the end of the Save In bar. When you click on that little arrow you will get the "Explorer" look of your computer. From there you can search for the folder you want to put it in.

The only way I know how to make a New Folder is to be in Explorer. By being in the area I want the New Folder to be in. For Example C:\Win98SE\My Documents. Then click on File, New, Folder and put it in the name you want.

Then when you save your document that your are working on you can search for it with the little black arrow at the end of the Save In bar.

    Hello

It's true that too many icons are usually crowded in the task bar next to IE and OE.A more serious problem is with task tray icons, not only because each of them decreases the available space of the task bar but also shows that a program is loaded at startup and runs in the background even we don't need it.As a result, Windows will load slower and unneeded programs running in the background will take memory and
resources. For these 2 problems I wish to present some solutions:
    1*-open [C:],click_R on a free spot>New>Folder,rename it to some
suggestive name, then open it and adjust its dimentions*.
-click_R on an icon in taskbar>Copy
-click the Paste button in the new folder menu
-do this for all icons in taskbar ,close the folder,click_R on its icon,
select "Create Shortcut" and drag the shortcut on the desktop.
Now you can change the shortcut's icon(click_R>Properties>Change Icon)
-click_R each icon in taskbar(you've just copied to the new folder)>Delete
or just drag one by one to Recycle Bin,so only IE and OE will remain.
-drag the shortcut in taskbar and you're done;when click on it,the new folder will open and you can run any program from there.

    Another way is :
-click_R on Start button>Open;Start Menu folder will open.
-click_R on Programs>Copy,click_R on a free spot in Start Menu folder
    and select Paste.
-click_R on "Copy of Programs ">Rename ...,then open it and delete all files;then Copy&Paste all icons in the task bar(as above). When click on Start button, you'll see the new created shortcuts folder with an arrow which looks like this one: http://www.geocities.com/best5ro/WinTools.gif

2-To desable all unneeded programs at startup,go to Start>Run,type
MSCONFIG,press Startup tab and uncheck all programs you can call
only when you need them.In fact there should be only:
    -Scan Registry
    -System Tray
    -LoadPowerProfile(2 instances).

I'm affraid I didn't understand well the MSOffice problem but to create a new folder
you need to do the same thing as shown at 1*;you can do this in any folder on your
computer and any new created folder will be located inside the parent folder-where
you've created it.Then you can rename it and put inside any object:file or other folder(s).
    For example,you can go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office,create a
new folder there (as shown at 1*),give a new name like "Letters" or else.

    regards

    Stefan
