I'm having a heck of a time trying to find an "easy" way to get rid of heretofind and the resulting pornography program that keeps installing itself. On google, the only results of my search were a very wide variety of solutions for many different people. As far as I can tell, the changes that need to be made revolve around what programs you have. Help!? Please??

    Welcome to WindowsBBS JWollin :)

If you haven't already done so, download, install and immediately check for updates to both Spybot and Ad-aware. Links are in my signature. Run Spybot and fix everything it finds and prechecks. Run Ad-aware in full scan mode and delete everything it finds. Reboot and download HijackThis.exe from here. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and hit scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet!

    Also...

Ran spybot and ad-aware (that's what took so long, sorry). Deleted everything that it detected. Couple of things that spybot couldn't remove until after I rebooted.

Can't get rid of "superporn" program (124788.exe)

edit note: I merged a new post with the original one so we'd have all the information in the same place. JWollin - please don't start new threads about the same issue. The background information is always helpful. Newt

Could someone give me a hand with this please? I can't get rid of the "superporn "/124788.exe program that randomly opens up while I'm browsing the net. It's driving me insane. You can uninstall from the window that opens, but then a couple minutes later an "install" window opens and you've got the program on your HD all over again. The 124788.exe file is in C:/ (always re-appears after uninstall, but returns after install occurs again), along with the inst.exe (which must install the superporn/124788.exe), and there's also a "hooks.dll" which always re-appears as well. I'm assuming this is related to TIBS since the program info says it's from smooth content ltd. and when I go to smoothcontent.com it's the TIBS page...

Could anyone tell me how the heck to get rid of this permanently???

    Thanks

    What you should try

Give spybot a chance at deleting that. Or, You've got to manually uninstall that program I guess. Open regedit and search for your program and delete whatever you find (which is horrible advice I guess) Spybot's freeware.

    Doesn't help!

I've run spybot twice (to make sure I got rid of hereto problem), as well as ad-aware twice. Then I did the whole hijackthis log on here with help to take care of everything. But apparently that didn't help.

This is what I was told to do with hijackthis:

Have all browser windows and Windows Explorer windows closed. Remove these items.

I couldn't find any of the .dll's, so I couldn't delete them. When I ran a new log for hijackthis, everything looked fine (none of the above were on it). Was something missed??

And as for going into the registry myself...eek...I don't want to ***** something up!

As Lonny said in post #7, we need a new, complete HJT log file to see what your status is and to figure out how to proceed.

    also...

Also, when the "inst." program runs, it says something about initializing the plugin? Thought I'd add that in...

    Hello

Start Hijackthis and place a check next to these items, then
Close all browser windows and shut down all other programs that show in the
taskbar. (even Folders) Then Hit fix checked.

    No problems yet.

I haven't had any problems yet...but I have a question for you. I installed service pack 2 from MS and I was looking at the firewall settings. In my advanced tab - Network Connection Settings, it's detected my local area network, and also TIBS04 and TIBS48. I've never seen those before. Is that related to my problem???

    and also TIBS04 and TIBS48

Most likely they are other devices (PCs most likely) that are either using the same ISP as you and the ISP has some settings issues or else if you run wireless, other systems near enough that your network is seeing them. Maybe a company with initials TIBS and a network admin who just named his PCs TIBSnn and you are only seeing 04 and 48 for some reason.

In either case, just deny them any access and you should be fine although whoever owns those systems may have some serious security issues they don't know about.
