I've had to rebuild Mozilla mail because I lost my profile (?). I have 5 seperate email addresses, 4 Earthlink and another. My new profile was set using Ramona's directions and all seemed to work fine. Now I've decided to use Thunderbird (and eventually Firefox). Thunderbird installed smoothly and after the conversion I thought all would be OK. Unfortunately, although the accounts appear seperate, three of my email addresses receive the same email. If I send a TEST to one it is received by the others. When the conversion from Mozilla to Thunderbird occured all the folders were duplicated under TWO of the accounts (which was really confusing). What is exasperating is I receive upwards of twenty emails to each of the addresses and can't seem to seperate one account from the other.

Also, new Thunderbird profile has only one "mail.earthlink.net" (POP) address. Mozilla has several as dashes. I want very much to use Thunderbird as it feels so much easier than what I've used before.

    Suggestions please ....

    Hi summerdale,

Even so, this is what I would do:

Open Thunderbird and delete your accounts, one at a time, then set up the accounts again. When you set up the accounts again, this time, disable / uncheck the "Use Global Inbox" setting

I tried recreating what happened to you, and I failed to disable the global setting and wound up in the same fix you're in. I may be wrong, but it is definitely worth a try.

Ramona, sorry it has taken so long to get back to you ... we spend each day until afternoon cleaning up debris from Ivan. Our bodies and minds are so tired it is difficult to know what we are doing and really could care less. Fortunately, we were one of the lucky ones with just trees and limbs down, and about 6 inches of pine needles, twigs and debris over every inch of our property.

I did as you suggested and now have seperate accounts and have tested them individually, now I need to get our mail from Mozilla into Thunderbird. It did the conversion automaticlly during installation but I see no way to duplicate that operation. Any suggestion, that doesn't take much thought?

Appreciate everything you do ... some of us would be lost and wondering forever if it wasn't for the kind folks on this BBS. Thanks to all ....

    summerdale,

Don't forget to take time to rest during the cleanup. Those hurricanes were horrendous, and thankfully you still have your home.

O.K., to get your mail from Mozilla to Thunderbird. Close both browsers, and Quick Launch.

    Open Windows Explorer
Open the first Mozilla Mail Account Folder
Rename the files without the MSF extension e.g., Inbox1, Drafts1, Sent1, etc.
This is so they won't overwrite exisitng Mail in the Thunderbird account

    Next:
Copy all the renamed files into the Thunderbird Mail Account which corresponds with this one.

Follow this procedure for the rest of your accounts. I think this would be the easiest way to do it, and requires much less thought. When you've done the first account, you'll see that it's a snap.

Also copy msgFilterRules.dat, and rules.dat from each account.

Let me know if you have further questions, and good luck on your cleanup. Hoping that the next hurricane misses you!

    Ramona,

What you ask looks simple, however, I have more account folders and sub folders under Mozilla than I do under Thunderbird. After renaming and copying like accounts what do I do with the leftovers? In one instance I have six Mozilla pop.earthlink.net accounts but only one corresponding Thunderbird account.

Also, since the Thunderbird accounts are so new they have no mail I need to save. Would it be simpler to delete all the Thunderbird accounts then copy all the Mozilla accounts into Thunderbird?

Do you want to merge the mail from all six Mozilla accounts into ONE Thunderbird account?

If so, then rename the Mail files from each Mozilla mail account, starting with Inbox 1-6, Drafts 1-6, Sent 1-6.

If you want to copy all SIX Mozilla accounts into Thunderbird, then you must first create those six Mozilla Mail accounts in Thunderbird. Then copy...

Keep in mind that if you have created subfolders in Mozilla, you will also need to copy any SBD folders to Thunderbird. You must also delete the MSF files in these folders.

See this page from the Thunderbird FAQ:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?title=Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Merge_Profiles

    AND

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.phtml?title=Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Merge_Profiles

    One more option:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/index.pht...tml?title=Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Merge_Profiles
If you "missed your chance" to import your profile via the Import Wizard and you would like to do so later, you can bring up the Import Wizard again by exiting Thunderbird, using the Profile Manager to delete all of the profiles listed, exiting the Profile Manager, and then launching Thunderbird again. This method is recommended only if you have been using Thunderbird for a very short time and you don't mind losing your account settings (if you've already set up one or more acccounts) and access to any messages you've already downloaded.
