Hi - I just installed an external USB hard drive enclosure that is recognized in Windows (I'm using XP Pro) but it does not show up in "My Computer" so I cannot access the drive or move files to it.

The drive is also present in device manager. What can I do to make Windows add the drive to "My Computer "?

    Thanks.

Yes, it's a USB hard drive enclosure. Both the enclosure and the drive are new. The enclosure came with drivers for Win98 so that was obviously worthless...

Well if it has just come from the shop, you may need to initialise it. I had to do this with a normal HD. Right click on my computer and click Manage. next, click on Disk Management in the left pane. then right click the new USB drive, it should say not initialized. then click initialize disk. follow the instructions and format the disk...

Have a look here for more help...

I had a similar problem with my Maxtor One Touch USB2 drive on one XP PC. I had to assign a drive letter in disk management for it to show up in My Computer. Was fine on a few other XP PC's. One of those windows things.
