    Hi,
I have windowsXP home OS (laptop) and the server at work runs on XPprofessional. When I try to start netscape7.1 on my computer via the server (via LAN) I can't open any webpage (NS7.1 starts normal). The message is always: "The document contains no data ". I can use internet explorer but how can I resolve the NS7.1 problem.
    Thanks for any suggestion,
    Ben

    wielockx,

In older versions of Netscape this usually resolved the issue:
With Netscape & Quick Launch closed:
    Clear history.dat and Cache
    Open Netscape
Check History setting, and set it to higher than 0

    Open Cookie Manager
    Edit | Preferences | Privacy & Security | Cookies
Ensure that the page you are trying to reach is not listed as a site that cannot store cookies

Try renaming cookies.txt to Xcookies.txt. Could be that you have corrupt cookies.

If you have set your Cache to update every time you view a page, then reset it to "When page is out of date ".

Turn off ZoneAlarm temporarily, and see if it is blocking your pages.

Let us know if any of the above help with this issue.

    Hello Ramona,

Thanks for the help but it didn't work. Furthermore, as far as I know only port80 is accessible via the server at work. Has this something to with it?
If I want to access my E-mail via Netscape (an https:// address and via an exchange server) the following message appears: "the connection to www.etc has terminated unexpectedly, some data may have been transferred). Also, if I open internet explorer (on whatever starting page) it will always ask for login and password (conecting to .....server), which it doesn't do when I try to start netscpe7.1.
    Any clues?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben

    Ben,

Yes, if only Port 80 is available, that would explain why you would be unable to access an HTTPS address. Beyond that I have no expertise. Your System Administrator or Information System Mgr. may have blocked access for HTTPS. Port 80 is used for World Wide Web HTTP only, and not HTTPS.

    Dear Ramona,

At least this is what people tell me here (about port80), however I can access https easily via internet explorer so it seems that it is not true, or?
Could it be that it has someting to do with verification as user. Internet explorer always asks for my name and pasword but Netscape never does and nothing happens.
    Regards,

    Ben

    Ben,

Have you asked your Systems Information person about the correct settings for your mail? I have an https mail account, and in my Netscape Mail & Newsgroups Account settings:
Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server settings

    My ISP uses Port 995
Under Server Settings I have enabled: Use Secure Connection (SSL)

Have you enabled this setting? When you do, then Netscape will ask for the password. You can either enter it each time you get your Mail, or allow Password Manager to save the password. You will have to ask the Systems Information person about the Port, as I have very little knowledge of the workings of a LAN, other than being on the user end.
