Windows 98SE CD player won't play

My CD player won't play CDs it's previously played all the way through if I neglected to name them the first time, but it will play a new one or one I did name. The dialogue box for the unnamed CDs says, under 'Artist' - "Data or no disc loaded ", and under 'Title' - "Please insert an audio compact disc." The 'edit' button doesn't work, so I don't know how to name them so they will play.
