Firefox 0.10.1 (Full Install) or the Patch (259708.xpi) can also be downloaded on the FTP site:
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/patches/

is it just me? unable to install critical update

    Hi Ramona;

I am not sure that this belongs here attached to the "sticky" that it pertains to, and maybe I should have started a new thread? But, maybe someone else has the same problem, surely, which is...

I attempt to do this "critical update ", and in all of the various ways that I have available to attempt to do this, they all stop dead in their tracks presumably after what would appear to be the download, at the point that the "updates found" panel surfaces. Anyway, I click on the "install now" button on that panel and it proceeds to the "installing" panel, with all three buttons greyed-out (back, forward, cancel), and the little circle of dots "chases it tail" without ever making any tracks across the progress bar, just looping away...

I have tried this about ten times (duh...) at various times of the day, and have let it just sit there and chug away for up to half an hour (double duh) before zapping it.

SO! Is it just me, or ???

    keywester,

I confess that I've never used the update feature, as I prefer downloading, and installing at my convenience. I did a quick run thru on the Firefox NG, and other Forums, and don't see a rash of this problem, so it could be your system. Have you cleaned up your downloads, or have you elected to clear you Downloads on exit? Do the usual, Clear Cache, history.dat, and XUL.mfl, and see if that helps.

What version of Firefox are you using now? If it is 1.0 PR, then you can install the patch from here:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/patches/

If your version is older than 1.0 PR, then you can download Version 0.10.1 here:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10.1/

    Hi Keywester
I did the above process to apply the patch. The patch was downloaded / processed via the "Extension panel view ". When the "install" tab becomes highlighted, click on it ... that's it. Close / Open FireFox and in the top toolbar left click on "Help" and choose "About Mozilla FireFox ". You should see your version release now reads 20040913 Firefox/0.10.1

    keywester,

I failed to ask the obvious, have you enabled Software Installation? Found in:
Tools | Options | Web Features | Allow web sites to install software
You may also have to add the link for the updates to the Allowed Sites.

Well, of the offered solutions, for simplicity I "enabled Software Installation" and that allowed the update to take place. But I guess that I went with the "update" method due to seeing the warning posted in a newsletter which only stated this method... I believe that I had previously taken the "download" path to do updates.

Guess I need to become more familiar with all of the various "options ", but it's tough to make myself take the time. Thanks for the info...
