I'm running on Win ME (Compaq). After running Adaware and removing what I thought were malicious files I'm now getting an error regarding my wireless network card that reads Socket running on non-socket. My connectivity to my access point is lost. I've tried Winsockxpfix.exe but that didn't work. Please help.

jlbruscia--That fix file you mention is for WinXP. Maybe this will do better
    http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Deletion of certain malware can cause the corruption of the Winsock.

Welcome to WindowsBBS jlbruscia, Jeff :)

The most common causes of your internet connection being lost after removing items with Ad-Aware are

    1. An out-dated version of Ad-Aware with updated reference files

    2. An up-to-date version of Ad-Aware with out-dated reference files

Ad-aware generally makes backups of the entries removed, by default. Try restoring the backups, reboot and see if it fixes the connectivity problem. Then download the newest version of Ad-aware, SE Personal build 1.05 (or check for updates if you already have this build), uninstall the previous version and install the new, then check for updates and scan again, removing all it finds.

BTW, the LSPFix posted by Welshjim should also work in lieu of updating Ad-Aware. ;)
