    Hello all!

Had a look in AIDA32 > Software > Windows Update and noticed that in addition to a note on Automatic Update, Q147222 is listed as installed.

Q144222 doesn't apply to Windows XP but to a miscellany of "servers ".

Does Windows XP Pro incorporate a "server "?

Does anyone else have Q147222 listed?

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

I forgot to mention that this is a clean installation of XP pro with SP2 slipstreamed and Office XP pro with SP3 slipstreamed.

Weird. Guess I'd rather have one to many than one too few. Maybe MS snuck it in with the .net update for XP.

    Hi Christer...

I'm running WinXP SP2 and do not have that update listed. Note...I'm using Everest not AIDA32.

    Steve,

I don't have the .NET thingy installed so, I don't think it is an update for that one.

    Hi dobhar,
I conlude that You installed SP2 on top of a current SP1 installation since the hotfixes You have listed, hasn't been suggested to me after my clean installation of XP pro with SP2 slipstreamed and Office XP pro with SP3 slipstreamed.

I don't think that AIDA 32 - Everest should differ but I'll install Everest and BelArc too to see what they find.

I have just checked my computer with Belarc and do not have this update listed; in fact Belarc shows quite a short list now after SP2.
I am running XP Pro SP2 (with .NET) and the full Office suite 2003 plus the service pack.

    Installed qfecheck and ran it:
    Q282784 (qfecheck itself) listed

    Installed Belarc and ran it:
    Q282784 listed

Installed Everest Home and ran it:
    Q282784 listed

    Reran AIDA 32:
    Q282784 listed
    Q147222 NO LONGER LISTED

I wonder what would have shown if I had done the things in the reverse order ...... ...... am I curious enough to roll back using Ghost and do it again ...... ...... ?

Well, curiosity won the battle ...... :) ...... and these are my findings:

Prior to rolling back, I checked the registry - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Updates - and Q282784 was listed under SP1.

After rolling back, HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Updates did not exist.

Ran AIDA 32, it listed Q147222

Installed and ran Everest Home, it listed Q147222

Installed and ran Belarc, it did not list Q147222 or anything else.

I manually created the Key - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Updates - and ran all applications once more with the same results.

I installed and ran QFECHECK. The results of the repeated runs of the other applications were again as in post #6.

It seems like AIDA 32 and Everest Home get confused by an empty or non existing HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Updates ...... ...... !
