I'm trying to locate my *.dbx files which are store outside Outlook Express.
I know there location but the odd thing is when I go there the folders are empty with no input.dbx,sent.dbx,misc.dbx etc etc files, yet when i click properties in OE it tells me thats where they are located. I have the view all fine icluding hidden files. Can anyone help me find how I can locate these files. However all my emails are still in OE and i can read all of them, but can't find any of the *dbx files on my HD.

Try using Agent Ransack for the search rather than windows explorer and just search for .dbx. See what it can turn up.

BTW - no email is stored IN Outlook Express. It is simply reading the contents of the email store files but they are always located somewhere other than within the program.

In OE > Tools> Options> Maint. tab where does your comp say your "store folder" is?

I have done that, and gone to exactly where it says it has stored them, and when I go there it the folders are empty, but i can still access all the emails via OE. This is real strange!!

Thanks Newt, I shall try Agent Ransack also.

To double check the location, check the registry by doing a search for "store root" (without the " ").

Start > Run > type: "regedit" > OK > Edit > Find > type: "store root" > Find next (again, without the " ").

    Thanks Guys,

This is really weird, but when performing a search on *.dbx nothing came up, yet when I performed the "find" via regedit, I was able to find all the *.dbx files. I then went to the location in Windows Explorer and "hey Presto" they were there. I'm not sure whats happened here, but I kow I was looking in thos folders prior to the regedit search. Maybe I'm just loosing my marbles..lol

Thanks again for all your help

Glad to hear that things are back in the sack ...... ;) ...... sorry, I meant folder!

Did You search the registry for "store root" or "*.dbx" ? When I search the registry for "*.dbx ", it finds nothing ...... ...... !

What OS are You on? I'm on XP-pro.

I don't think so, Windows works in mysterious ways ...... ...... or should that be Windows DOESN'T work in mysterious ways!
