I use both IE 6 and Netscape 7.2, but I also still have Netscape 4.8 (with Communicator) on my computer. When I'm in IE 6 and there's a mailto: link on a website, if I click on it I will automatically be directed to Communicator in NS 4.8, rather than to the NS 7.02 Mail compose screen, even though I've identified NS 7.2 Mail as the email program IE uses. How can I get IE to send me to NS 7.2 Mail?

Yes, as I tried to indicate in the initial post, IE is set up to use NS 7.2 Mail--but it still defaults to the earlier Communicator.

You'll probably have to edit File Types found under Tools->Folder Options in Win Explorer.

Here is where I figured out what to do:
    http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/MailtoProtocol.htm
    The steps were:
    * Open Internet Options, Programs tab
    * From the E-mail dropdown list, choose another mail client and press Apply
    * Re-do the procedure and set your preferred email client again
