I am having the same problem. I also can not access Safe Mode. And I do not have a CDBoot Disk or the actual product CD. Can I download a Boot Disk and if so where?
    Please help

    .SIF is corrupt

So I tracked down all the original CDs and the product key. I ran a boot from the CD Rom and tried to do a Restore. I got an error message that the .SIF file is corrupt or missing. What is next?

    Try this:
Try this, usually works. The problem is to with some spyware, and when removed causes the behaviour you guys are describing.

First off, boot your computer from your Windows XP restore cd/OS cd, when the menu comes up hit the R key to get to the recovery prompt.

The prompt should start off at C:\Windows. Type "cd system32" (without the quotes). The prompt should now read C:\Windows\system32

Type: "copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe" (without the quotes)

    Reboot

I followed the instructions and replaced the wsaudater.exe which brought my Windows back. However it deleted all my Network/Internet Connections and won't let me reinstall them.

C6 - try LSP Fix and see if that helps. TCP/IP may well have gotten messed up.

That will probably at least allow you to make new connections and could possibly bring the old ones back for you.

All - please start a new thread for yourself even if there is a current one with the same problem. This thread now has three folks with problems (similar but not really identical) posting to it. I will be splitting it with a new thread for each of you but easier if everyone just starts their own.

    still having the original problem

I'm having the same problem as Tok had... here is his original post which I think is what the original problem for this thread:

"When I turn on my computer it loads the welcome screen and I click the user symbol to log on. It says 'Loading Personal Settings' as usual. Unfortunately, once the settings have loaded it immediately says 'Saving Settings' and automatically logs off and back onto the Welcome screen. It doesn't allow me to see the desktop so I cannot change any files.

I tried opening windows in Safe Mode, but I can't log on, so I can't use System Restore. I've also tried enabling boot logging and VGA mode. Basically I've pressed F8 and tried EVERY option available to me. Restarting doesn't work and I still get automatically logged out when I sign in.

I can't send this to microsoft support (at this time anyway) because I can't access the Product ID through the computer, because I can't log on to the computer!!

Please help me as I can't access anything, and re-installing Windows is an unacceptable option in my opinion. "

I'm facing the exact same problem. I am running Windows 2000 Advanced Server and the last thing I remember doing was removing some spyware and eventually resetting and never being able to log in again. I tried the suggestion to "copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe" and it is still doing the same thing. BTW, when i did that copy, there was no wsaupdater.exe in my system32 directory. That might be because that suggestion was for XP and I'm running 2000. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE does anyone know how to get aroudn this, it's been over a month that I've been without my server.

    Thanks.
