Whenever I click on User Accounts in the control panel the hour glass appears for a second, goes away and nothing happens...
I found this thread which describes the same problem, but not really any resolution. I have run control userpasswords2, and that allowed me to access user settings, but i am unable to get to the advanced settings, i get this screen that says i have to get there from clicking on User Accounts in the control panel.

Also, in the user settings, it shows 3 accounts, and I thought I only had 2 as only 2 show up on the logon screen at bootup...am I missing something here???

You need to specify XP pro or XP home. Then someone with the same OS can take it from there!

The administrator account normally does not show on the welcome screen.

For the other problem, the first thing to try is click on start, on run, key in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and see if the system file checker finds and replaces damaged or missing system files that clear up your problem.

    Thanks for the input...
I have already run sfc /scannow with no luck.
If the admin acct is not shown on the welcome screen, how do you access it?

In XP Home, the Adminstrator user account is accessble when you boot into Safe Mode. Repeatedly press the F8 key during bootup which should take you to the boot menu. Choose Safe Mode. Click on the Administrator account and if you haven't assigned a password to the Administrator account, leave it blank and press the Enter key.

The User Accounts applet is the "nusrmgr.cpl" file. Go to Start>Run, type in nusrmgr.cpl, click OK and see if User Accounts starts up.

If not, you can replace that file by going to Start>Run, type in "msconfig" (without the quotes), click OK. On the General tab, click the "Expand File" button. The file to restore is nusrmgr.cpl, restore from either C:\I386 (if present on your computer) or D:\ (where D is your CD drive) and put your XP CD in the CD drive and save the file to C:\Windows\System32.
