I use System Suite firewall, and run AdAware and Spybot several times a week as part of my regular maintenance. Since the last time I did the usual scan, defrag, etc. I have been getting a spybot warning regarding "Avenue A" attempting to load. At first it was just when I open Excite, but it has progressed to the point where even if I use the Google search bar in my Earthlink homepage, I'm sometimes warned that Avenue A is attempting to load. I realize that these things are growing, but this thing seems to be everywhere. Is this a known problem with spybot, is Avenue A taking over the internet, or is there something else going on?

    Hello fridgitator,

Avenue A is a tracking cookie, the "danger" is to privacy. SSD is keeping it from writing to the HD. If you wish, turn off SSD's warnings and it will continue with it's blocking.

If you wish to know more about tracking cookies and Avenue A in particular, google on it - lots of info.

A site on cookies - what they are, what they do, the downside

    Tracking Cookie

PestPatrol lists this as a tracking cookie with "clot factor 2 "....it's supposedly a known problem by Spybot. I've personally not encountered it.

    Hi -k,

Make sure you don't have it excluded in SpyBot - it is ubiquitous.

Thank you all for your responses. When this started, I read up on a.a and decided that it was nothing I want on my machine. My main comcern was that it seems to be turning up so often the last few days, and at sites that I have trusted for so long that It looked as though it may be hiding somewhere in my files trying to attack from within. That may not make any sense to those with alot more knowledge on the subject, but it didn't seem reasonable that it has become so pervasive that it is suddenly present in sites that have been on my daily favorites list for years. Scary stuff. anyway, the advice regarding restricted sites and IEspyAds is greatly appreciated. much better than dealing with the constant spybot warnings. It just goes to show that just 'cause I'm paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't out to get me!
