I've got an IBM thinkpad, running XP Home, have 376mb ram, Norton Antivirus, Spybot and Ad Aware.

When I first boot up the system everything seems fine. I open IE 6 and can connect to any website. In the bottom it says it's downloading from whatever site and then the page comes up.

After a little while when trying to go to another website the bottomw will say "connecting to site 216.109.118.76" for Yahoo, then it says the page cannot be displayed. It does this for any webpage.

The only way to reconnect is to reboot the system.

I have found nothing in Spybot or AdAware, have cleaned out the temp files and defragged the machine.

    Any suggestions?

Are you on dialup or broadband?

Does this happen while using the pc constantly or does it happen if you step away from the pc for 10 minutes or more?

(By defualt, XP puts the network card in power saving mode which could cause this....)

If you're using broadband (cable or DSL), to check to see if the network card is being turned off when idle:

Right click on My Computer, left click on Properties.
    Click on the Hardware tab.
Click on the Device Manager button.
Click on the plus sign to the left of "Network adpaters."
Double click on the netword adapter listed.
Click on the "Power Management" tab.

If "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked, uncheck it and click OK to save the change. See if that resolves the problem.
