I bought a new Dell 2350 less than two years ago with a wireless logitech mouse and keyboard. Yesterday the keyboard started cutting out on me sporadically so I assumed it needed new batteries. I checked the old batteries and they were pretty used up (~1.2V each) so I put in two fresh ones (~1.4V each) and the thing hasn't worked since!

I rebooted, shut down and let it sit and restarted. The mouse is fine, keyboard dead as a doornail. Reset the keyboard, reset the receiver which is only a couple feet away. Checked that the batteries were sitting properly. These devices work by the receiver plugging into the USB port for the mouse (I think) and another wire into the ps2 port via a supplied USB->PS2 adapter.

Assuming there is a hardware problem in the keyboard, what could I do after opening the case to try and fix it?

FWIW I'm now using my old mouse and keyboard, both plugged into the PS2 ports. Darn I miss the scroll wheel on that wireless mouse.

Clean led output window on the KB? Clean the input led on the rec? Remove object blocking the line of sight? Correct batteries or cheapies. My wife buys the cheapest she can find even after the 742nd conversation about alkaline. Bless her heart.

No leds on the receiver or keyboard. Dell said they had logitech remove em so as not to eat up battery power.

Anything else? Like I said the batteries tested at 1.4V. They're only rate at 1.25 and the old ones worked sporadically and tested at 1.2V.

I don't mean power LED's. There is a window through which the keyboard communicates with the receiver. Infrared? ultraviolet? For instance. If you put your hand over the business end of the mouse, the receiver cannot "see" the mouse and therefore no communication.

BTW, battery voltage means nothing unless measured under load. What kind of batteries came with the keyboard?

Also BTW: Your kB/Receiver driver may be corrupted. I the Device Manager you might try to reinstall the driver?
