    Hi there,

I'm using a month old notebook, and this morning, I discovered at the Tasklist that Windows XP Pro is running at 100% CPU Usage. I've been researching this issue on the web for the entire day now. I came across this forum, and hopefully one of you kind souls can help me to solve this. My machine is so sluggish now, I'm even having problems opening Outlook.

I've done the preliminary work from the threads I see here and elsewhere; I've run Lavasoft Ad-aware PE, and I'm now running an online scan with Panda; I doubt it'll find anything, as I keep NAV updated daily.

I am attaching the HijackThis Logfile below.

Thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it.

    Hello kiatchan,

This post is quite similiar to yours http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=35630

As Zander posted back, look in Task Manager for the particular processes.

From your log: this is questionable, can't find any references to the CLSD #
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - (no file)

You might also in the meantime run your startup programs thru here http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm for any that don't need to run at bootup but can be invoked on demand. For instance, I notice that msn messenger is starting at bootup. Don't know if you use or not - you have yahoo.

    Regards - Charles

    Welcome to the board. :)
As Charles says, look in the task manager, under processes for the offending task that is hogging the CPU usage. If the said task isn't a system task you can also highlight it and click the end process tab which may temporarily allow you to use the PC till you can troubleshoot the offending task/programme, which may be corrected by one of the following. Uninstall and reinstall the programme associated with the task. Update the programme associated with the task or update any drivers associated with any hardware associated with the task.

    HTH

You could choose to have HJT 'fix' the above lines, as they are sort of a hijack from Yahoo. This would not cause 100% usage. Other than that, I see no malware in the log.
