I have a Sony CRX 140 8xwriter, 32xreader, and I have recently removed my CDRom (Teak), so now I am using my writer as a reader too.

One problem is that it takes ages to read a cd, after inserting a cd, of any kind, it can take up to 3 minutes for explorer to recognise that there is even a cd in there, while I am waiting, I have tried clicking on the E: in explorer, by it says :

"E:\ is not available, the device is not ready ".

......but the light on the front of it stays constantly on until it does read it.

Also, after inserting one cd, it eventually loads, and in explorer, it's icon is correct, but if I change the cd, the icon doesn't change, as if explorer doesn't refresh itself, I tried closing explorer, reopening it, pressing F5, but it stays the same.

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers.

Most of my Cd's are burnt with the sony, but it happens to others too, even originals.

Firmware? how do you mean? (Excuse my ignorance, please)

    Cheers.
